We have a new accessory website that has recent photos of rarities and maps
of some birding spots in the County, including a map of Huntington Central
Park showing the "local" names for birding areas at:
http://members.cox.net/orcorba/
Note: We may supply for many sightings (AT THE END OF THIS REPORT) links for
maps of those areas and aerial photos. Many of these are general maps. If
we have specific information from GPS readings, we will alert you to the
fact. After you go to the link, go to the BOTTOM of the form and choose
aerial photo (and adjust zoom factor) or the map (where eventually you will
adjust the zoom factor).

Today at Huntington Central Park, east side, there was an EURASIAN WIGEON
and one male and at least 5 female HOODED MERGANSERS. The PLUMBEOUS VIREO
also continued around the Island Area. Yesterday a WINTER WREN, first found
last weekend, was also in the park on the east side (west end of the
Island).
Yesterday, just inside Orange County in the west edge of Forest Lawn
Cemetery, City of Cypress, a TROPICAL KINGBIRD was found. Find the statue
of David and look ...uh.... look.
On Monday along the rocks below the bluffs near the Ocean Institute of Dana
Point, 2 ROCK WRENS were seen (at two separate locations) and a pair of
PEREGRINE FALCONS. Note that the report of the Prairie Falcon last week was
an error in transcribing the message off of the RBA tape...the bird was also
a Peregrine Falcon.
Last Saturday at Santiago Oaks Regional Park, around the picnic area, a
BROWN CREEPER was seen. Also that day the continuing AMERICAN REDSTART was
seen east along the bike path near the Orange-olive and Riverdale parking
area. An adult SUMMER TANAGER was in the northwestern side of Eisenhower
Park.
Last Friday on private property in Irvine a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was seen.
Last week at Bolsa Chica Preserve a ROSS GOOSE (18th) flyover, and a SNOW
GOOSE (22nd) were photographed.
Last Thursday the following were seen:
Reddish Egret at Talbert Marsh around the lower Santa Ana River; ROSS GOOSE
and CASSINS VIREO, WILSON WARBLER, MERLIN (west side of lake...up slope) at
Twin Lakes Park.
Last Wednesday (the 16th), a female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was next to the Santa
Ana River at the defunct Coal Canyon offramp....just inside the boundaries
of Chino Hills State Park.
Finally, there are two CACKLING GEESE in the County, a "minima" type
continued today at Huntington Central Park, east side, while the "aleutian"
variety was seen on the 21st at Carr Park.
