This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, August 12th, 2005.



On August 6th, a juvenile LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen in a pond off of Brackett Road
in Rye, and 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in Hampton Marsh. On August 9th,
3 GREAT EGRETS were seen in Salmon Brook Park in Nashua, and on the 5th, 3 GREAT
EGRETS were reported from the Trails at Pickering Ponds in Rochester and 1 was
reported from the Lamprey River in Newmarket.



On August 10th, a HORNED GREBE was seen at Odiorne State Park in Rye, and on August
8th, a female COMMON GOLDENEYE was seen in Hampton Harbor.



On August 7th, 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen at Adams Point in Durham, and on
August 6th a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and a STILT SANDPIPER were seen at the Exeter Waste
Water Treatment Facility.



On August 8th, in Hampton Harbor, were seen 2 STILT SANDPIPERS, 6 WHIMBRELS, and 5
RUDDY TURNSTONES, and on the 6th there were 2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS. Also on the 8th, 2
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen at the pool located on the south side of Route
101E just before the junction with Route 1A, and one was seen in Lubberland Creek
Marsh on Bay Road in Newmarket.



There were various numbers of shorebird sightings reported from the coast last week,
including: BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, RUDDY TURNSTONES, LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, WHIMBRELS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, SANDERLINGS,
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, and WILLETS. One of the best places to
look for migrating shorebirds is Hampton Harbor, at low tide.



On August 6th, a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW and several SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED
SPARROWS were seen in Hampton Marsh.



On August 12th, in Concord, a PEREGRINE FALCON was seen near the brick tower at
Concord Steam, near Pleasant Street.



On August 8th, a FOX SPARROW was reported from Pittsburg, and there was evidence
that it was probably breeding there.
