This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, November 25 at noon. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.

In the North County, an EASTERN PHOEBE continues at the City Park at River
Oaks in Santa Maria and was seen yesterday. In addition, a CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW was there, in the weeds about 50-60 feet from the fence along the
path to the larger pond.

The ZONE-TAILED HAWK has returned for its 13th year, and was first seen on
October 13th, sitting on a power pole at its usual haunt of North Fairview
Avenue and Cuesta Verde. Now, we know where it is roosting. Look in a tall
palm tree on the south side of Cuesta Verde about 100 yards east of
Fairview. 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. have been the best times to look for this bird
in that vicinity, where it was seen three times this week. Also this week,
it was seen soaring over the little organic farm at Fairview and Stow Canyon
roads at 10:00 yesterday, and at the west end of the airport at 11 a.m. on
Monday.

A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was found on Tuesday at the Goleta Sewage Plant, in the
myoporum around the chicken coop. That bird was still there on Wednesday, in
the same location.

At Devereux Slough, two SNOW GEESE and a ROSS'S GOOSE were present last
Sunday. What are probably the same geese were reported this morning from the
driving range at the Ocean Meadows Golf Course. They were with a flock of
CANADA GEESE. Two PEREGRINE FALCONS were at Devereux on Monday.

At the Rancho Goleta Mobile Home park, at the end of Ward Drive in Goleta,
two ROSS'S GEESE remain in the pond.

At the Mission Creek outfall are more than 100 wintering BLACK SKIMMERS.

Highlights from the Cachuma Lake boat trips this week include two adult and
one immature BALD EAGLE.

In the North County, in Lompoc, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW has returned to Old
La Purisima Mission Park on the south side. Look in the blackberry bushes in
the southeast corner of the park.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported from Miguelito Park in Lompoc
yesterday.

That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
