At Dashield's Dam on 11/25, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE, 3 HOODED MERGANSERS (MV).
On 11/27 a SNOW GOOSE flew upriver past the Dam with 17 CANADA GEESE (GM).
In East Liberty on 11/20, FOX SPARROW (DY).
In Fox Chapel on 11/20, 2 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 4 HOODED MERGANSERS (DY).
At the McKees Rocks Marina on 11/26, 29 HOODED MERGANSERS, 1 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT (DY).
In Etna on the Allegheny River on 11/26, 1 BALD EAGLE, 6 HOODED MERGANSERS (DY).
Armstrong County:
On 11/21 at Crooked Creek Park, 2 BALD EAGLES, 3 NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS, 5
AMERICAN PIPITS, 1 FOX SPARROW (reported to MH by David Valasek).
Beaver County:
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was observed again on the afternoon of 11/20 at
the Montgomery Lock & Dam; there is currently a large concentration of gulls
on the Ohio River: RING-BILLED, HERRING, BONAPARTE'S (GM).
At Raccoon Lake on 11/25, 2 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK (MV).
At Ambridge Reservoir on 11/15, 9 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE,
1 COMMON LOON (MV).
At Little Blue Lake on 11/25, sightings included AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and
1 NORTHERN HARRIER (MV).
On the Ohio River in Monaca on 11/26, 1 REDHEAD, 2 HOODED MERGANSERS (MV).
At Beaver Falls Dam on 11/26, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS (MV).
Butler County:
At Moraine State Park on 11/20, sightings included GADWALL, LESSER SCAUP,
PIED-BILLED GREBE, COOPER'S HAWK, AMERICAN COOT, RING-BILLED GULL,
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, FOX SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, DARK-EYED
JUNCO among a total of 30 species (KSJ).
Crawford County:
On 11/20 at Miller's Ponds, 1 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, 8-9 BALD EAGLES (MV).
On 11/20 at the fish hatchery (Pymatuning), GREAT EGRET (MV).
On 11/27 at the Linesville Fish Hatchery, 1 GREAT WHITE HERON was reported
(to MV by Jack Christman et al.)
One BALD EAGLE was seen at Hartstown and another BALD EAGLE at Custards,
both on 11/20 (MV).
At the causeway on 11/20, 12 SNOW BUNTINGS (reported to MV by Ron Leberman).
At Pymatuning State Park on 11/23, sightings included 80 TUNDRA SWANS, ~800
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, ~25 SNOW BUNTINGS, COMMON MERGANSERS, GADWALL (SK).
Erie County:
>From last week: at Beach 11 through 11/19, 1 FORSTER'S TERN continued to be
seen (JM).
Early afternoon on 11/20 at Gull Point Presque Isle State Park, a CALIFORNIA
GULL was seen roosting with other gulls at the tip (BC). Apparently an
individual of this species was also seen back on 11/12. A CALIFORNIA GULL
was again found one mile west of Presque Isle on 11/26, as well as 1
first-year NORTHERN GANNET (BC).
Also at Gull Point on 11/20, 1 RED-NECKED GREBE and 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL (JM).
Highlights of the waterbird counts at Sunset Point PISP this week included:
11/22: 75 TUNDRA SWANS, 6 GREATER SCAUP, 2 SURF/BLACK SCOTERS, 8 LONG-TAILED
DUCKS, 4 BUFFLEHEADS, 9 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 1,430 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 2

11/23: 12 TUNDRA SWANS, 2 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 38 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 4
REDHEADS, 76 GREATER SCAUP, 304 LESSER SCAUP, 416 unidentified SCAUP, 3 SURF
SCOTERS, 3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 4 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 4

bird was flying over the lake but rested ON the water 50 feet from shore for

WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 4 SURF/BLACK SCOTERS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 6 COMMON

11/27: 1 AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 120 CANVASBACKS, 15 GREATER SCAUP, 6 LESSER
SCAUP, 265 unidentified SCAUP, 2 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 3 COMMON
GOLDENEYES, 15 COMMON MERGANSERS, 1,150 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 57 COMMON
LOONS, 297 HORNED GREBES; also seen that day were BALD EAGLE, RED-NECKED
GREBE (North Pier), all three SCOTER SP. at Beach 11, 1 female BOBOLINK from
Gull Point (JM).
Other sightings within Presque Isle on 11/22: another JAEGER was seen flying
over Gull Point and west over Thompson Bay; the flock of SCOTER SP. still
remained off Beach 11; and the BLACK SWAN is still being seen in Misery Bay
(JM).
There was an EARED GREBE with about 150 to 200 HORNED GREBES at the channel
at 10:30 AM on 11/23; there were still a few SURF SCOTERS and WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS off Beach 11 through 11/26, but no Black Scoters were seen 11/23
(JM). On 11/25 at the channel an adult/sub-adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
was sleeping on the south pier with a mixed flock of RING-BILLED GULLS and
HERRING GULLS (JM).
At Sunset Point on 11/23, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE; on B-trail at PISP on 11/26, 1
CHIPPING SPARROW (JM).
At Leo's Landing on 11/26, 1 EARED GREBE (JM).
At Misery Bay on 11/26, 1,000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS (JM).
At Edinboro on 11/23-24, 1 female BALTIMORE ORIOLE (JM).
Greene County:
>From the Polly Hollow trail at Ryerson Station State Park on 11/20, 1 COMMON
RAVEN was heard calling (MB).
Indiana County:
>From Reservoir Hill in Indiana on 11/19, sightings included 1 SWAINSON'S
THRUSH, 3 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, 4 DARK-EYED JUNCOS; on 11/21, 27
DARK-EYED JUNCOS, 40 CEDAR WAXWINGS (reported to MH by Pat Johner).
On 11/22 at Yellow Creek State Park, sightings included 53 TUNDRA SWANS
(overhead), 162 COMMON LOONS, 8 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, 351
AMERICAN COOTS, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS (overhead), 31 RING-BILLED GULLS
(overhead), 7 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 2 SWAMP SPARROWS, 10 WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS, 8 PURPLE FINCHES (MH with Kevin Redvay, Scott Speedy).
On the morning of 11/22 over a Clarksburg yard, 3 flyover flocks of TUNDRA
SWANS; on 11/25, 1 FOX SPARROW, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS (MC).
On 11/23 near Shelocta, 1 FOX SPARROW, 4 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES (MH).
Near McIntyre on 11/27, 4 FOX SPARROWS (MC).
Lawrence County:
In New Beaver on 11/20, 1 RUDDY DUCK, 1 BUFFLEHEAD, 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1
LESSER SCAUP, 22 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 AMERICAN COOT (all at the Atlantic
States gravel pond); 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, 1 light-phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK,
HORNED LARKS, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL in a small pond with domesticated ducks
(all at the Pulaski Township Amish farms); and 7 SANDHILL CRANES at the
Plain Grove Golf Course Road marsh (MV). On 11/26 at the Atlantic States
Gravel Pond, 1 BUFFLEHEAD; at the Pulaski & Wilmington Townships Amish farms
on 11/26, 7 COMMON SNIPE, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2
NORTHERN HARRIERS, 100+ HORNED LARKS, 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR, 1 SNOW BUNTING, 1

At Edinburg Lake on 11/26, sightings included 6 GADWALL, 2 GREEN-WINGED
