RARE BIRD ALERT
CLARK'S NUTCRACKER
Wednesday, August 10
A CLARK'S NUTCRACKER was seen at Rocky Point Bird Observatory in
Metchosin. It was last seen flying towards William Head. There have
only been 3-4 sightings in the Victoria area in the past 10 years. There
was one at Rocky Point about 10 years ago.
A BLACK SWIFT was seen at the north end of Galiano Island.
Tuesday, August 9
A CASSIN'S VIREO was seen at the end of Florence Lake Road in
Langford.
2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were seen at King's Pond, off Ascot Drive.
At Viaduct Flats in Saanich were an OSPREY, a NORTHERN HARRIER,
6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 9 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 4 GREEN WINGED TEAL, 1 GADWALL, LEAST and
WESTERN SANDPIPERS, a WILLOW FLYCATCHER, and a BLACK-
THROATED GREY WARBLER.
4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen at the end of Bowker Avenue
in Oak Bay.
Monday, August 8
21 HEERMANN'S GULLS were seen from the Victoria Golf Club in Oak Bay.
Sunday, August 7
A juvenile PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was seen at Clover Point in Victoria
at 8:00 am. Also there was an ARCTIC TERN and 3 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES.
A TUFTED PUFFIN was seen at Rocky Point Bird Observatory in Metchosin.
Saturday, August 6
2 COMMON TERNS were seen at Rocky Point Bird Observatory.
At Viaduct Flats in Saanich were a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a VIRGINIA
RAIL, a SORA, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, a WOOD
DUCK with young, a GADWALL with young and a CHIPPING SPARROW
with 2 young and a Cowbird.
Friday, August 5
3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were
seen at the end of Bowker Avenue in Oak Bay.
Thursday, August 4
10 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS,
9 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 1 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS were at Viaduct Flats in Saanich.
