This month is sponsored by the Berrien Birding Club.

In OTTAWA COUNTY, December 1st, a WESTERN GREBE* was located off the end of
the north pier at Grand Haven. It has not, to my knowledge, been relocated.

In CASS COUNTY, the EURASIAN TREE SPARROW* continues to be seen at, and
around, the home of David and Minu Johnson, in Jefferson Township. The most
recent report of the bird occurred on December 1st. The Johnson’s are
welcoming birders to their yard, who wish to see the bird. Hours are dawn to
dusk, and folks can park in the drive. You need not announce yourself. The
address is 26047, M-60, Cassopolis. House is on east side of road, about 3
to 4 miles south of the village of Cassopolis. Please be careful when
turning off, or on to M-60, as it is a busy highway, with lots of fast
traffic.

In ALLEGAN COUNTY, December 4th, 5 RED-THROATED LOONS were seen offshore at
Oval Beach in Saugatuck.

In MUSKEGON COUNTY on December 1st, 6 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen at about
4pm, at the Muskegon Wastewater Facility. December 3rd, 2 GOLDEN EAGLES were
seen near the intersection of Swanson and Lake Roads. On December 3rd, a
PURPLE SANDPIPER was seen at Pere Marquette Park, seen on the pier, about
half-way between beach and the “elbow”. On December 4th, 3 PURPLE SANDPIPERS
were seen along the south breakwall.

In MARQUETTE COUNTY, over the past week or so, 2 SNOWY OWLS have been
reported in the town of Marquette. On November 22, 1 was seen at Presque
Isle Park, and another has been seen along the lower harbor in Marquette, as
recently as December 6th.

In ALGER COUNTY, a NORTHERN HAWK OWL has been seen (most recently on
December 3rd) on the south side of M-28 in Shelter Bay. Directions- From the
intersection of M28 and Hwy 41 south of Marquette, drive 20.5 miles east on
miles east on M28. Look for the owl atop the conifers on the south side of
the road.

In DELTA COUNTY, a white-morph GYRFALCON was reported on December 5th, along
N-12 Road, on the Garden Peninsula.

In CHIPPEWA COUNTY, a GREAT GRAY OWL and a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL were seen
on December 3rd, and a flock of RED CROSSBILLS on December 1st,at Taquamenon
Falls State Park. 2 SNOWY OWLS were seen December 2nd, off Centerline Road,
near Rudyard.

In LAPEER COUNTY on December 5th, a flock of PINE GROSBEAKS were reported at
the Seven Ponds Nature Center.

In WAYNE COUNTY—On Belle Isle December 5th, a 1st-winter LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL was reported. 3 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS were located/relocated on Belle
Isle on December 4th. However, it is believed one of the 3 had been flushed
by a photographer.

In MACOMB COUNTY’s Clinton Township, December 4th, a SNOWY OWL was seen at
the intersection of Finley Street & Little Mack Street.

In BERRIEN COUNTY, a male LONG-TAILED DUCK and several BLACK SCOTERS were
seen off Pier Road overlook, at Lakeside on December 4th.
