This is Pete Bacinski for the Voice of the NJ Audubon Society for
Thursday, December 8, 2005 with reports of GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE, BLACK BRANT, ROSS'S GOOSE, CACKLING GOOSE, TUNDRA SWAN,
EURASIAN WIGEON, REDHEAD, COMMON EIDER, HARLEQUIN DUCK, WESTERN
GREBE, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE, WESTERN SANDPIPER, PURPLE
SANDPIPER, GLAUCOUS GULL, RAZORBILL, BLACK GUILLEMOT, NORTHERN
SHRIKE, HORNED LARK, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, WESTERN TANAGER,
"IPSWICH" SAVANNAH SPARROW, SNOW BUNTING, PINE SISKIN, a pelagic
update and seasonal and local reports of interest.

A BLACK GUILLEMOT was discovered at Barnegat Light SP Dec. 3 and was
still present as of Dec. 8. This is the 12th record for New Jersey in
76 years and first lingering bird since Dec. 1962-Jan. 1963. The bird
can be seen almost anywhere along the jetty on the south side of
Barnegat Inlet and along the bulkhead near the lighthouse. Other
Barnegat Light SP sightings include a fly-by RAZORBILL, A COMMON
EIDER, 3 PURPLE SANDPIPERS 8+ "IPSWICH" SAVANNAH SPARROWS and 30 SNOW
BUNTINGS Dec. 5, 26+ HARLEQUIN DUCKS, and a jaeger (sp) Dec. 4

A female-type WESTERN TANAGER was observed at the south side of the
parking lot at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Dec. 3, but has not
reappeared. Other Brig sightings include: fly-by ROSS'S GOOSE, 29
TUNDRA SWANS, a GOLDEN EAGLE, several WESTERN SANDPIPERS and an
"Ipswich" SAVANNAH SPARROW Dec. 4.

The WESTERN GREBE continues at South Amboy Waterfront Park as of Dec.
7; for directions check the website at www.njaudubon.org/Centers/
SHBO. A BLACK BRANT was also present there Dec. 2 and a HORNED LARK
Dec. 4.

Sandy Hook hosted an adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK Dec. 2 at North Pond and
Dec. 3 at Spermaceti Cove, a HARLEQUIN DUCK Dec. 3 and 4 and seven
COMMON EIDERS off C-Lot, as well as 75 SNOW BUNTINGS and 8 HORNED
LARKS at North Beach all Dec. 3. Late was a NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOW observed over North Pond Dec. 2.

A EURASIAN WIGEON was present on a pond in Rumson Dec. 2 and 3 at the
intersection of Navesink and Hartshorne. A CACKLING GOOSE was
discovered among a flock of CANADA GEESE on Willowbrook Road near
Thompson Park in Holmdel Dec. 3. Two TUNDRA SWANS visited Assunpink
WMA Dec. 4. Wreck Pond in Spring Lake hosted a LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL, while a HARLEQUIN DUCK was observed off Neptune Avenue in Sea
Bright Dec. 4

An immature GLAUCOUS GULL was noted at the DeKorte Environmental
Center in Lyndhurst Dec. 5, while 30 HORNED LARKS were tallied at
Liberty SP Dec. 7. The RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at Garret
Mountain Reservation in West Paterson as of Dec. 7 seen on the upper
road opposite the horse stables.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was discovered in Layton at the intersection of
County Roads 640 and 560 just north of the intersection of County 615
Dec. 4 (Delorme P.18, I-10). Swartswood Lake hosted a GREATER WHITE-
FRONTED GOOSE seen from Rt. 521 Dec. 2, while 125 HOODED MERGANSERS
were present on Lake Musconetcong Dec. 5. Three PINE SISKINS visited
a feeder in Lake Stockholm Dec. 6 and ten TUNDRA SWANS were tallied
on Spruce Run Reservoir Dec. 5. Four REDHEAD were present at White
Lake in Kittatinny SP Dec. 1
