This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, December 8. Please

A male and female BLACK SCOTER were reported off Dockweiler State Beach in
El Segundo on December 3. Parking can be found along the Pacific Coast
Highway at the Hyperion outlook between Imperial and Grand. Check near
Lifeguard Platform #58 and #59.
The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD and YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER at Banning Park in
Wilmington were reported through December 2. Banning Park is on the Pacific
Coast Highway, just east of the 110 Freeway.
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD at West LA College was seen through December 7. Look
for it on the fences around the baseball fields. Also at the college was a
female type BALTIMORE ORIOLE on December 5. The oriole was in eucalyptus
trees in the southeast corner of the baseball field.
A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER along the LA River continued through December 2. This
bird has been seen between DeForest Park and the Artesia crossing in Long
Beach. At DeForest Park proper, a BELL'S VIREO continues in alders south of
the tennis courts. A WINTER WREN is still being seen along the Nature
Trail. Enter the Nature Trail and go to the tule reeds and look for the
bird about 40-50 feet to the right of this spot.
The PAINTED REDSTART at Elysian Park was reported through December 4. This
bird is in the Solano Canyon area of the park. Take Parkview Drive off
Academy Way to the end. The bird has been seen around the picnic area on
the left side of Parkview just past the playgrounds and typically favors oak
trees.
The nearby SUMMER TANAGER in Chavez Ravine along Stadium Way was reported
through December 4. The last reported location was just north of the
parking lot at Stadium Way and Academy Road.
The PAINTED REDSTART at Big Dalton Canyon above Glendora was seen through
December 4. It has been in the vicinity of the first picnic area on your
left as you drive up the canyon.
