Highlights:
NORTHERN SHRIKES, PINE GROSBEAKS and COMMON REDPOLLS have been widely
reported.
At Hills Beach in Biddeford there were a FORESTER'S TERN and a GRASSHOPPER
SPARROW.
Two REDHEADS were seen in Grondin Pond in Scarborough and 24 were seen in
Cobbosseecontee Lake.
A SNOWY OWL continues to be seen at Reid State Park in Georgetown and a BLUE
GROSBEAK is coming to a feeder in West Georgetown.
A WESTERN TANAGER has been seen inconsistently at a feeder in Winterport.
York County
At the Cliff House in Ogunquit were 3 RED-NECKED GREBES, 1 RAZORBILL, all
three SCOTERS, 14 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, and 2 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS.
A MERLIN and a GREAT EGRET were in Wells. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on
Drake's Island Road. At Wells Beach there were 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, a
PRAIRIE WARBLER, and 1 NORTHERN HARRIER. A VIRGINIA RAIL was seen in the
Webhannet Marsh.
At Parson's Beach in Kennebunk there were 10 HORNED GREBES, 1 GREAT EGRET,
18 RED-NECKED GREBES, and 32 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS.
At Hills Beach in Biddeford there were FORESTER'S TERN, GRASSHOPPER SPARROW,
and a COOPER'S HAWK on December 5. At Fortune's Rock there were 2 HARLEQUIN
DUCKS, and RED-NECKED and HORNED GREBES. At Hattie's Restaurant there were
two GREAT BLUE HERONS and a COOPER'S HAWK. A COOPER'S HAWK and COMMON
REDPOLLS were in a yard in Biddeford.
Scarborough Marsh Area
On Eastern Road were a COOPER'S HAWK, NORTHERN HARRIER, and a NORTHERN
SHRIKE.
Two male REDHEADS were in Grondin Pond on December 6.
Greater Portland
A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was seen in South Portland.
A MERLIN was seen in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland on December 5.
A WOOD DUCK was seen in Freeport on December 3.
COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in Gray.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE and a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER were in Cornish.
Up to 124 COMMON LOONS were seen gathering on Wilson Pond.
Midcoast
Birds in Phippsburg included: 2 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, a NORTHERN ORIOLE,
6 COMMON REDPOLLS, a PINE WARBLER, 3 WHITE-THROAT SPARROWS, a RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRD, NORTHERN SHRIKE, MERLIN, and 2 COMMON GRACKLES.
In West Georgetown there was a BLUE GROSBEAK at a feeder. Also in Georgetown
were 3 BALD EAGLES, and 2 PINE SISKINS. At Reid State Park there were 2
PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 1 SNOWY OWL, 1 female NORTHERN SHOVELER, and 2 COMMON
REDPOLLS.
Several WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Warren.
Central Maine
A COMMON REDPOLL was at a feeder n Lewiston.
Two NORTHERN SHRIKES were seen in Augusta.
At Cobbosseecontee Lake there were 24 REDHEADS on December 2.
A PINE GROSBEAK and a RED CROSSBILL were seen in Oakland.
In Saint Albans there was a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER.
In Hampden there were two BOHEMIAN
Four PINE GROSBEAKS were in Orono, and a second flock was seen on the
University of Maine Orono campus.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and an ICELAND GULL were seen along the Bangor
waterfront. Two male BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were seen from the Penobscot Bridge
in Bangor.
PINE GROSBEAKS were in south Brewer.
A WESTERN TANAGER was seen again on December 8th at a feeder in Winterport.
Also seen were 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 1 FIELD SPARROW, 3 COMMON REDPOLLS, and
up to 10 NORTHERN CARDINALS. On December 5th by the Winterport town cemetery
there were 1 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and 14 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS.
Eastern Maine
At the University of Maine campus in Machias there were 30 BOHEMIAN
WAXWINGS.
Northern Maine
In Tomhegan Township there were 3 GRAY JAYS, 2 PINE GROSBEAKS, 2 BOREAL
CHICKADEES, 1 PINE SISKIN, and a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET.
A few PINE SISKINS were seen in Houlton.
