On 12/5 at Frick Park, 1 MERLIN (SS).
In Wexford from 12/3 through 12/5, yard sightings included Red-shouldered
Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Red-winged Blackbirds,
Eastern Bluebirds, Chipping Sparrow, Cedar Waxwings (PL).
In Findlay Township on 12/9, sightings included 1 Ruddy Duck, 2 Ring-necked
Ducks, 1 Lesser Scaup, 1 drake CANVASBACK, 2 Eastern Towhees, 1 NORTHERN
HARRIER (MV).
At Neville Island on 12/9, 1 American Black Duck, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 10
Pied-Billed Grebes, 1 Ruddy Duck (MV).
In McKees Rocks on 12/9, 1 American Black Duck, 25 Hooded Mergansers, 7
Pied-billed Grebes (MV).
At Woods Run on 12/9, 1 COMMON RAVEN, 5 Ruddy Ducks (MV).
In Sewickley on 12/9, 1 Ruddy Duck (MV).
On 12/10 at Lock & Dam #2 in Highland Park, 1 Ruddy Duck, 11 Herring Gulls (DY).
On 12/10 at Bal Harbor Marina in Blawnox, sightings included 1 Pied-billed
Grebe, 1 Ring-billed Gull (DY).
On 12/10 at Reid's Marina in Cheswick, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 1 American
Black Duck, 3 Ruddy Ducks, 9 Ring-billed Gulls (DY).
In Tarentum on 12/10, 2 Horned Grebes, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 3 Hooded
Mergansers, 1 Bufflehead, 1 Ring-billed Gull (DY).
On 12/10 at L&D #4 Natrona Heights, 1 Ruddy Duck, 2 Lesser Scaup, 1
Ring-billed Gull (DY).
At North Park on 12/10, sightings included Red-shouldered Hawk, American
Tree Sparrow, NORTHERN HARRIER, Red-breasted Nuthatch (BV).
Beaver County:
The RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD that had been present since mid-October in a yard in
Independence Township was LAST SEEN ON 12/7 (reported to MV by Rich &
Elizabeth Hoge).
On 12/9 at the New Brighton (Townsend's) Dam, 1 adult and one transitioning
BALD EAGLE (SG).
On the Beaver River at the entrance to Big Rock Park on 12/10, 1 LONG-TAILED
DUCK (RM and MV) and 1 Pied-billed Grebe (MV).
At the 10th Street Dam (Beaver Falls) on 12/10, 1 flyover BALD EAGLE (RM).
At the New Brighton Boat Launch on 12/10, 2 Wood Ducks, 3 American Coots (MV).
In Rochester on 12/10, 1 Ruddy Duck (MV).
At Little Blue Lake on 12/10, sightings included 15 Horned Larks, 4
Red-winged Blackbirds, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, 7 unidentified Ducks (MV).
Clarion County:
Near Piney Tract on 12/9 a small flock of SNOW BUNTINGS (CW).
Erie County:
The Presque Isle Sunset Point waterbird counts this week were highlighted by
a flyover GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE/CANADA GOOSE SMALL RACE on 12/5, 49
TUNDRA SWANS and 550 CANVASBACKS on 12/6; 52 GREATER SCAUP, 3 SURF SCOTERS,
4 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 776 Red-breasted Mergansers on 12/10 (JM).
Other species observed there this week included more TUNDRA SWANS,
CANVASBACKS, GREATER SCAUP, REDHEAD, American Black Duck, Lesser Scaup,
Bufflehead, COMMON GOLDENEYE, SURF/BLACK SCOTER, Horned Grebe, Red-breasted
Merganser, Common Merganser, Common Loon, SNOW BUNTING (JM).
The three species of SCOTER still remain at Beach 11 through 12/6; a
RED-NECKED GREBE and an EARED GREBE were seen off the north pier on 12/6 (JM).
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen next to Pine Tree Trail at Presque Isle State
Park on 12/6 (JM).
Lawrence County:
On the Beaver River near Rte. 168 bridge on 12/10, 1 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 1
REDHEAD, 2 Hooded Mergansers (MV).
At the Atlantic States Gravel Pond on 12/10, 3 CANVASBACKS, 1 Lesser Scaup,
1 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 2 Ruddy Ducks (MV).
