At Wolfe's Neck State Park in Freeport a probable MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD
was seen and photographed on Saturday, August 6th. Another MAGNIFICENT
FRIGATEBIRD was reported from the Pier in Bar Harbor on the 5th.


York County
A walk at Laudholm Farm in Wells had 38 species in two hours on the 6th.
Highlights include: 2 GREAT EGRETS, 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 6 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 4 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, SANDERLINGS,
EASTERN KINGBIRD, EASTERN PHOEBE, 75 TREE SWALLOWS, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOW, NASHVILLE WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, BLACK
and WHITE WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, EASTERN TOWHEE, and 4 BOBOLINKS.

Birds in the Hill's Beach, Biddeford Pool Beach, and The Pool area included:
38 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 213 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 8 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 5
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 27 WILLETS, and 8 WHIMBRELS. At
Biddeford Pool there were 2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 67 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 40
SANDERLINGS, 700+ SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 78
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS. From Vine's Landing there was a juvenile
anatum-type PEREGRINE FALCON persistently pursuing a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER
until finally catching it over the Pool. 1500+ COMMON EIDERS were rafting
off East Point, and a BLACK and WHITE WARBLER was in the woods at East Point
Sanctuary.


Scarborough Marsh Area

On Eastern Road on the 5th there were: 14 LITTLE BLUE HERONS, 10 GREAT
EGRETS, 20 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 15 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 12 WHIMBRELS, 80
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 15 GLOSSY IBIS, 60
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 60 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 12 WILLETS, 250 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, and 1 male COMMON SHELLDUCK (not a native species). A PEREGRINE
FALCON was chasing shorebirds around the marsh on the 7th. Birds at Pine
Point in Scarborugh on the 11th included: 130 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 800
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 1 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER, 40 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 10
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, an adult HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 20 WHIMBRELS, 2 RUDDY
TURNSTONES, 2 SANDERLINGS, 1 RED KNOT, hundreds of SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS,
and 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER. Along Eastern Road there were: 5 WILLETS, 1
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 575 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 200 LEAST SANDPIPERS,
hundreds of SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 LITTLE BLUE HERON, and SALTMARSH and
NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

At Fort Allen Park at the southeast end of Portland's Eastern Promenade
there was one TRICOLORED HERON.

At Evergreen Cemetery in Portland on the 9th there were BLUE-WINGED
WARBLER, WOOD THRUSH, MERLIN, COOPER'S HAWK, and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.

At Wolfe's Neck State Park in Freeport a probable MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD
was seen and photographed on Saturday, August 6th.

Migrants in a yard in Falmouth included: 1 NORTHERN PARULA, 1 CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER, 3 PRAIRIE WARBLERS, 1 PALM WARBLER, 2 CANADA WARBLERS, 2
BLACK-and-WHITE WARBLERS, 1 fledgling THRUSH, presumably a WOOD THRUSH,
a fledgling EASTERN TOWHEE, and 2 young EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. There was also a
young INDIGO BUNTING in the yard.

Two BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS, and a RED-TAILED HAWK were in Pownal.

At Wharton Point, at the north end of Maquoit Bay in Brunswick there were
19 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 7 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 225 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 20
KILLDEERS, 15 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 204 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 3 WILLETS, 150+
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 15+ LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 75 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS.

A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was in Gray and another one was heard in Casco.

Six GREATER YELLOWLEGS were flying upstream at Weston's Bridge over the Saco
River in Fryeburg.

Midcoast

Two PIPING PLOVERS and COMMON TERNS were at Reid State Park in Georgetown.
Elsewhere in Georgetown there was an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER.

Out on Monhegan there were YELLOW and PINE WARBLER, CEDAR WAXWING, AMERICAN
KESTREL, OPSREY, MERLIN, and ATLANTIC PUFFINS were seen from the mail boat
out of Port Clyde.

At Weskeag Marsh in South Thomaston there were 16 SNOWY EGRETS perched among
the pines. Also seen were 75 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 20 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS.

Central Maine

In Dixmont on the 5th there were BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, 2 WOOD THRUSHES, and
on the 6th there were 6 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS.

A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO has been calling every morning for a week now outside
a house in Pittston. An AMERICAN BITTERN was also seen in the area.

For the past week a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO has been singing in the woods near
Jamie's Pond in Manchester (DeLorme Map12 Grid C4). Other birds include:
HERMIT THRUSH, WOOD THRUSH, AMERICAN REDSTART, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, PILEATED
WOODPECKER, SCARLET TANAGER, RED-EYED VIREO, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER,
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, and other more common birds.


Eastern Maine
At the Bar Harbor Pier, a MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was reported on August
5th. This is likely the same bird that was seen in Freeport on the 6th.


Northern Maine


In Fort Kent there was a SOLITARY SANDPIPER.

Two TURKEY VULTURES and NORTHERN HARRIERS with young were in Houlton.

A COMMON MERGANSER with eight young were seen in Baxter State Park.
