RARE BIRD ALERT: CLARK'S GREBE


Friday, December 9

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen again at Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood
for the 8th day, with 300+ WESTERN GREBES. It was out from the
washrooms at the south end of the lagoon. This is only the fourth
record for the Victoria checklist. Birders that see this bird are
requested to fill out a rare bird form which is available on the
VNHS web site at www.vicnhs.bc.ca


Thursday, December 8

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen again at Esquimalt Lagoon for the
seventh day.

A MERLIN was seen on Mt. Tolmie in Saanich.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen at Phyllis Park, which is
off Arbutus Rd at Ten Mile Point in Saanich.


Wednesday, December 7

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen for the sixth day at Esquimalt Lagoon.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen on Jocelyn Hill.


Tuesday, December 6

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen at Esquimalt Lagoon.

Two TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were seen again at Phyllis Park,
which is off Arbutus Road at Ten Mile Point.


Monday, December 5

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen again at Esquimalt Lagoon for the
fourth day.

Two TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were seen at Phyllis Park, which is off
Arbutus Road at Ten Mile Point.


Sunday, December 4

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen again at Esquimalt Lagoon for the third
day.

Also today at Martindale Flats in Central Saanich were a
SNOW GOOSE, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK, a PEREGRINE
FALCON, and a NORTHERN HARRIER. A NORTHERN SHRIKE
was seen nearby at the end of Puckle Road.


Saturday, December 3

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen at Esquimalt Lagoon.

A mini-pelagic trip out of Pedder Bay produced 5-10 SOOTY
SHEARWATERS, a CASSIN'S AUKLET, a dark phase NORTHERN
FULMAR and many ANCIENT MURRELETS.

At Martindale Flats were a SNOW GOOSE, a SHORT-EARED OWL,
and a NORTHERN SHRIKE, and on Lincoln Rd. there was a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.


Friday, December 2

A CLARK'S GREBE was seen at Esquimalt Lagoon on the ocean
side. It was seen with many WESTERN GREBES close to shore.

Two TUNDRA SWANS were seen at Panama Flats in Saanich.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen at Rithet's Bog.

An AMERICAN KESTREL was seen near the intersection of Wallace
Drive and West Saanich Road in Central Saanich.
