SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

No reports of rarities

RIVERSIDE COUNTY

On Friday, December 9, Andrew Howe reported 6 HOODED MERGANSERS along
Riverwalk Parkway in the small ponds adjacent to the turn to La Sierra
University, reached by taking Riverwalk south from the 91 freeway.

Larry LaPre reported a female PRAIRIE FALCON (light richardsonii form) in a
tree at the edge of a park on the corner of Hamner and Fifth in Norco.

On Tuesday December 14, Howard King reported an adult ZONE-TAILED HAWK
circling south of the B&B Bait Store in Blythe. On Wednesday morning
December 14 he reported a RUDDY GROUND DOVE in the Goose Flats area. It was
at a feeder at 16811 Riviera with EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES and INCA DOVES.

On Wednesday December 14 Chet McGaugh reported an EASTERN PHOEBE near Dillon
Road, north of I-10 in Indio. It was on the south edge of a large citrus
grove on unposted private property. A PRAIRIE FALCON has been regular in
this area.

IMPERIAL COUNTY

Bob Miller reported the following sightings from the Salton Sea on Friday,
December 9: AMERICAN BITTERN and CASPIAN TERN (at the view tower at Unit
one on Vendel Road), 65 SANDHILL CRANES in the fields south of the tower,
one ROSS’S GOOSE (Blue Morph) among the cranes and another at the visitors
center in the field west of the viewing tower; immature TUNDRA SWAN at Wiley
Reservoir; FERRUGINOUS HAWK (Intersection of Bannister and Pellet Roads west
of Westmoreland); 2 large-billed SAVANNAH SPARROW (NW corner of Obsidian
Butte); SE of Brawley on the east side of McConnell Road about ¼ mile south
of Keystone there is a field diked and full of water where the following
were observed: three GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, two ROSS’S GOOSE, and
several hundred BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. He saw 28 MOUNTAIN PLOVER just south
of Brawley on the west side of Harvey Road, midway between Mead and Schwartz
Roads which is east of Dogwood Road and ¼ mile west of Highway 111.

Bob reported the following from the Imperial Dunes: GREEN-TAILED TOWEHEE,
SPOTTED TOWEHEE, GRAY FLYCATCHER, LECONTE’S THRASHER, ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHER, and PHAINOPEPLA. This area is remote and can be hazardous.

On Saturday, December 10, Bob Miller reported the following from the
Algodones Dunes Wilderness Area: PRAIRIE FALCON, GRAY FLYCATCHER,
ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, BLACK-TAILED GNATCATCHER,
SPOTTED TOWHEE, VESPER SPARROW, and LONGSPUR. Contact Bob for specific

On Sunday, December 10, Guy McCaskie reported 1 SPRAGUE’S PIPIT, about 150
CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and a large number of
HORNED LARKS in fields near the Calpatria State Prison.
