BirdBox, sponsored by the Golden Gate Audubon Society, compiled
31 December 2005 at 07:30 p.m.
Highlights: LAYSAN ALBATROSS, TUNDRA SWAN, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER,
RED PHALAROPE, PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER, LONG-TAILED JAEGER, GLAUCOUS GULL,
NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW.
San Mateo Co.

On Dec 29, the NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW and SWAMP SPARROW were in
the salt marsh along East Third Avenue in San Mateo at high tide.
Directions are from Highway 101 in San Mateo, take East Third
Avenue about one and half miles to the traffic light with a sign
for turning right on to Anchor Way. Instead turn left into the
parking lot. Park and walk up to the dike and at the first
P.G.E. tower, walk down to the dirt trail into the salt marsh
following the raised dirt trail west to the end looking for the
Nelson's Sharp-tailed and Swamp Sparrow along the way. (Ron Thorn)

On Dec 30, a male WHOTE-WINGED SCOTER was at Mulford Point
at the San Leandro Marina at low tide. (Ken Archimbaud)
On Dec 29, (3) WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were at the mouth of the
San Leandro Marina at high tide. (Jerry McNeeley)
Mendocino Co.

On Dec 30, (80) TUNDRA SWAN were at the mouth of the Garcia River,
where Hwy 1 crosses. (3) PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVERS were by the log
jam on the north spit of the Garcia River. The LAYSAN ALBATROSS
was seen on the 29th, but was NOT seen on the 27th, 28th nor 30th
at the Point Arena Cove. Hundreds of RED PHALAROPES were seen along
the coast. (2) 1st cycle GLAUCOUS GULLS were seen in the Point
Arena Cove and another by the Point Arena Lighthouse.
