This is the Chicago Audubon Society bird report for Monday, August 15, 2005
at 9:30am.
An adult GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL and a second year LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
were seen this morning at Montrose Beach. Other recent reports from
Montrose include six WILLETS, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, RUDDY TURNSTONE,
PEREGRINE FALCON, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and TENNESSEE WARBLER on August
14th, EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH on August 11th, and a WHIMBREL and LAUGHING GULL
on August 10th.
On August 11th an adult ARCTIC TERN was seen at Miller Beach in Indiana,
and an adult BALD EAGLE was seen at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Seen at Lake Calumet's Big Marsh yesterday were RED-NECKED PHALAROPE,
PEREGRINE FALCON, three SNOWY EGRETS, two LITTLE BLUE HERONS, and one
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON.
Another SNOWY EGRET and two LITTLE BLUE HERONS were at Lake Calumet's Dead
Stick Pond yesterday, and at Harborside Golf Course were two OSPREY, two
SNOWY EGRETS, and three BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.
Seen at Eggers Woods yesterday were 13 LITTLE BLUE HERONS, three MOORHENS,
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, and two CAROLINA WRENS.
Among at least 16 species of shorebirds seen the last two days at Fermilab,
mostly at the AE Sea, were RED-NECKED and WILSON'S PHALAROPES, BAIRD'S and
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, and WILLET.
In the Palos area last weekend, two WILSON'S PHALAROPE'S were seen at
Tampier Slough along Will-Cook Road, and a SNOWY EGRET was at the pond at
104th Avenue and McCarthy Road.
Four LITTLE BLUE HERONS were seen August 10th and 13th at Meacham Grove in
Bloomingdale.
A LITTLE BLUE HERON and VIRGINIA RAIL were seen August 13th at Volo Bog.
