Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report

The Yaquina Bay YELLOW-BILLED LOON continues to be seen. On August 16 a
female EIDER flew southward off the North Spit of Coos Bay. On August 11 a
BLUE-HEADED VIREO was reported from the Coffin Butte Unit of the EE Wilson
Wildlife Area. It could not be relocated. An adult female LARK BUNTING was
photographed August 13 at Baskett Slough NWR. It could not be relocated. A
probable male LARK BUNTING was seen August 14 near Cabin Lake, north of Fort
Rock. The BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD continues to be seen at Waldport. Another
probable BROAD-TAILED is coming to a feeder in Southwest Portland.
Heavy shorebird movements were reported during the week with an unusually
large number of BAIRDıS and SOLITARY SANDPIPERS being reported. On August 16
at least 221 BAIRDıS SANDPIPERS were at Thief Valley Reservoir south of
LaGrande; smaller sized flocks were reported elsewhere. PECTORAL SANDPIPERS
are now beginning to arrive. Large flocks of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS are now
conspicuous along many roadways.
On August 14 a BLACK SWIFT was over Heceta Head north of Florence. On August
15 a female AMERICAN REDSTART was seen near Seaside. Two SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS were seen August 11 on Sauvie Island. Two FRANKLINıS GULLS were
there August 14. By August 12 over 165 GREAT EGRETS were at Smith and Bybee
Lakes in North Portland. Up to six SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS are now at Fern
Ridge Reservoir. A male TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD was there August 13. A WILLET
and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW were there the next day.
On August 16 a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was at Powell Butte, east of Redmond.
Two were at the east end of Prineville Reservoir August 10. On August 16 a
WHITE-FACED IBIS was at Tumalo Reservoir west of Bend. On August 14 a
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was calling at Summer Lake. Two COMMON TERNS were at
Thief Valley Reservoir August 16.
