This is the Michigan Statewide Bird Report for Thursday, August 18th 2005.

In IOSCO COUNTY, at Tawas Point State Park on August 14th, 2 male WESTERN
TANAGERS* were reported. Specifically, they were in a birch tree along the
wooden walkway, on the Lake Huron side of the point, about midway to the end
of the point. BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS have also been reported this week from
Tawas Point SP.
In BERRIEN COUNTY, a EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE* was present as of August 12th,
at the village park in Three Oaks. On August 14th, 3 AMERICAN AVOCETS were
reported at Tiscornia Park in Saint Joseph. 2 WILLETS and a BAIRD’S
SANDPIPER were reported there on August 15th. On August 13th, 1 LITTLE GULL
and 1, 1st-summer LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were found at New Buffalo Public
Beach. A LITTLE GULL was photographed the morning of August 17th, at New
Buffalo.
In EMMET COUNTY, August 11th, a LITTLE GULL was photographed on the beach of
Wilderness State Park.
In ALPENA COUNTY, at Isaacson Bay August 12th, 3 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were
reported present.
In MIDLAND COUNTY August 16th, 1 AMERICAN AVOCET was present at the Dow
Ponds in Midland (city).
In ARENAC COUNTY, August 13th, 1 WILLET was seen off Santiago Road.
In INGHAM COUNTY on August 11th, a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was found at the
Michigan State University pond off College Road.
In WAYNE COUNTY, August 13th to 15th up to 3 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS have
been present at the Waltz Sod Farm, on Ash Road, west of the railroad
tracks. On August 15th, 1 adult male DICKCISSEL was found at Oakwoods Metro
Park.
In WASHTENAW COUNTY on August 11th, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was located at
the sod farm on the west side of McCrone Road, south of Willow Road.
In MUSKEGON COUNTY, BUFF-BEASTED SANDPIPER (August 15th) and BAIRD’S
SANDPIPERS (High total of 9 on August 13th, several on August 15th) were
among the shorebirds found at the Muskegon Wastewater Facility. EARED GREBES
were found at Muskegon Wastewater on August 13th (2 birds) and August 15th
(1 bird).
