OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE - DDD, MMM dd 2005 AT t:tt xM
THE OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE @ 6:00 pm, SUNDAY JANUARY 22, 2006
A week of wet, followed by "white", weather made for a slow week
for bird reports. However, some goodies were reported just this
weekend.
A GREAT GRAY OWL in the town of Limoges east of Ottawa was seen on
the property of #1576 Route 300 as well as on the hydro poles
along the road. The most recent report was from today, the 22nd.
Also, a Northern Mockingbird has been seen irregularly in North
Gower, on McCordick Rd. for approx. the past 2 weeks. It was seen
today the 22nd at #6848 McCordick as well as the property across
the street. It does not appear to be associated to a feeder, and
please do not enter the properties.
The YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD in the community of Forest Park east
of Embrun continues to visit the property of #23 Manitou - it was
most recently reported on the 21st, in the company of a Brown-
headed Cowbird, in the large tree in the front yard. A BOREAL
CHICKADEE in this same neighbourhood is also evidently still being
seen or heard regularly on or near this same property, and on both
the 19th and 21st a group of 6 White-winged Crossbills was also
seen here. A Chipping Sparrow - rare in winter in our area -
visited the feeders in the front yard at #36 Fowler St. off Perth
St. in the town of Richmond southwest of Ottawa on the morning of
19th and again briefly on the early afternoon of the 22nd.
In other reports...on the 16th an adult Bald Eagle was seen flying
over the Ottawa River east of downtown Ottawa, and another adult
was seen perched along Hwy 307 at Hwy 148 on the Quebec side today
the 22nd. A Peregrine Falcon was in the neighbourhood of Sandy
Hill on the 21st, and individual Merlins were seen on the 17th in
Westboro and the 22nd in Kanata. Snowy Owls continue to be
reported locally - one bird was on Earl Armstrong Rd. south of the
international airport on the 19th, and at least 2 were seen on
Akins and Rushmore Rds. off Eagleson Rd. on the 22nd. Bohemian
Waxwings, Pine Grosbeak and Common Redpolls are also being seen in
and around the city, and the only local report of a Pine Siskin
was at a feeder in Rockcliffe on the 21st.
Thank you - Good Birding!
