SNOWY OWLS are still the birds of the week....

Lincoln Co WA. On 21 Jan a flock of birders observed 3 SNOWY OWLS along the
Sunset Hwy west of Reardan, Lincoln Co WA.

Columbia Co WA. Mike and MerryLynn Denny and the Shoemakers found a SNOWY
OWL north of Dayton, Columbia Co WA on 23 Jan. The bird was off Whetstone
Road off of US 12, along Thronson Road under a wind turbine in the Hopkins
Ridge wind turbine farm.

Kootenai Co ID. The SNOWY OWL on the Rathdrum Prairie in Kootenai Co ID was
still being seen through 21 Jan. Look for it on the west side of Greenferry
Road, a short distance north of Prairie Road near Gallop Lane.

Latah Co ID. I saw two SNOWY OWLS 24 Jan along Berger Road NE of Genesee. To
get there from US 95, turn east onto the Old US 95 at milepost 336.3 (about
7.5 miles south of Moscow). Follow Old US 95 about 2.5 miles until it veers
right (south) onto the Genesee-Troy Road. Follow the GT Road south about
0.25 miles and turn left (east) onto Eikum Road. Follow Eikum about 1.5
miles. Here, Danielson Road goes off to the right, Eikum makes a zig, and
Danielson goes off to the left. Immediately Eikum becomes Berger. Go another
mile. Just before Berger makes a sharp right turn south, there's a big basin
on the north side of the road. Look for the birds. You'll probably need a
scope. ID DeLorme 58, C-1.

On 23 Jan Larry Hamrin and Keith Carlson found two LONG-TAILED DUCKS, a
female and an apparent first winter male, on the Clearwater River in
Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID. To get there from the north end of Lewiston,
follow US 12 across the Clearwater River and then stay right past the first
traffic light. At the next light, which is 18th Street, turn right and
follow the bypass. Park in the first parking lot. From the top of the levee
you can scan the river in front of the grain terminals. The birds are almost
always between the US 12 bridge and the railroad bridge downstream, and
almost always near the barges at the grain terminal. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

On 21 Jan a flock of birders found a TRUMPETER SWAN at Browns Lake along WA
231, between mileposts 5 and 6, in Lincoln Co WA.

Good birding.
