A SPOTTED TOWHEE has been attempting to overwinter at Buffalo Lake, northeast of
Stettler. It was first noticed Dec 23 by residents at 26 Sands St, Rochon Sands,
Buffalo Lake and has now been seen by several observers including Judy Boyd of Red

of this species in the province this winter season.

There has been another NORTHERN HARRIER, either an immature or adult female seen by
Terry Korolyk on Jan 27 at Clear Lake on Twp Rd 140, 15 km east of Hwy 2, south of
Stavely. This species has been very scarce in Southern Alberta this winter.

Rob Worona reported a flock of 40 HOUSE FINCHES at 7 Ave and 36A St NW Calgary on
Jan 28. On Jan 29 he observed a female HARLEQUIN DUCK on the river at Beaverdam
Flats. At Carburn Park, same day, he saw 5 CACKLING GEESE and 2 KILLDEER.

Jim Davis reported a dark morph GYRFALCON over the Maple Ridge Golf Course at 9:30
am Feb 1.

Andrew Slater observed a NORTHERN SHRIKE at the gravel pit next to Bowmont Park on
Feb 1. He had also seen a NORTHERN SHRIKE here on Nov 10.
