This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, August 19.

A SANDHILL CRANE, a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, and a BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHER were reported from the Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary
in Marshfield on Thursday. The SEDGE WREN and CACKLING GOOSE
continue at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord.

At the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island, counts this week
included 14 GLOSSY IBISES, 1 LEAST BITTERN, 1 CLAPPER RAIL, 7
OSPREYS, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 17 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 1
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 1400 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 6
PIPING PLOVERS, 30 GREATER AND 120 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4
WHIMBRELS, 6 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 1 RED KNOT, 1 DUNLIN, 80
SANDERLINGS, 4200 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 WESTERN
SANDPIPER, 160 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 160 WHITE-RUMPED SAND-
PIPERS, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 7 STILT
SANDPIPERS, 180 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 21 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 1 UPLAND SANDPIPER, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE, 1 juvenile
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 1 LAUGHING GULL, 1 LITTLE GULL, a
PEREGRINE FALCON, 36 PURPLE MARTINS, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER,
and 21 BALTIMORE ORIOLES. As many as 100,000 swallows were estimated
to be coming to evening roosts in the Plum Island area.

At Duxbury Beach, there were 324 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 871
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 4 PIPING PLOVERS, 1 KILLDEER, 22
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5 WILLETS, 86
RUDDY TURNSTONES, 120 SANDERLINGS, 2669 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 29 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 65 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS,
and 4 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS. Nearby at Plymouth Beach birders tallied
500 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER, 300
SANDERLINGS, 2 RED KNOTS, 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 500
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and 2 BLACK TERNS.

Seawatchers at Cape Ann counted 28 COMMON EIDERS, 235 GREATER
SHEARWATERS, 42 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 29 MANX SHEARWATERS,
2000 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, 9 NORTHERN GANNETS, 2 PARASITIC
JAEGERS, and 4 BLACK and 73 COMMON TERNS.

At South Beach in Chatham, there were 2600 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS,
4800 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 22 PIPING PLOVERS, 1 WILSON'S
PLOVER, 170 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, 225 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 25 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 200 WILLETS, 100 WHIMBRELS,
85 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 3 MARBLED GODWITS, 325 RUDDY
TURNSTONES, 1600 RED KNOTS, 4000 SANDERLINGS, 4800 SEMI-
PALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER, 100 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 200 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 1 BAIRD'S SAND-
PIPER, 1 CURLEW SANDPIPER, 1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, 3
DUNLIN, 2000 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS,
5 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, 1 PARASITIC JAEGER, at least 10 LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 1800 COMMON and 105 ROSEATE TERNS, 5
LEAST TERNS, 5 BLACK TERNS, and 2 BLACK SKIMMERS.

Miscellaneous reports this week have included 2 WHIMBRELS and 300
BONAPARTE'S GULLS in Newburyport Harbor, a HORNED GREBE at
Cripple Cove in Gloucester Harbor, a COMMON MOORHEN at the Oasis at
Suffolk Downs in East Boston, 3 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES and a
DARK-EYED JUNCO in the Post Office Square area of Boston and an
ORCHARD ORIOLE in the Fenway, a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER
in Brookline, a HOODED WARBLER in Nahant, a PINE SISKIN in Stow,
and a CANADA WARBLER and 30 BALTIMORE ORIOLES in Marlborough.
