Sightings for February 14
The GYRFALCON continues at Marshall's Feedlot in Kelowna and was again seen
on Valentine's Day (TF).
At 7 PM on February 13 a BARN OWL flew across Old Vernon Road in Kelowna at
the golf range (TF).
A pair of TUNDRA SWANS have been on Duck Lake in N. Kelowna since Feb 7
(JM).
An adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK was along Stafford Road in Rutland on Feb 10 (TF).
Sightings for February 3
An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was discovered along the beach at the S.
end of Okanagan Lake in Penticton (LN,DC). The bird was first seen in the
morning and again in the mid-afternoon.
E. of Kelowna, along Hwy 33, 2 NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS were seen near the
turnoff to Big White (CC,RV).
The GYRFALCON was again reported at Marshall's Feedlot in Kelowna on
February 2 (TF).
Two CANYON WRENS, one singing, were at the Cosen's Bay entrance to Kalamalka
Lake Park on January 29 (TF).
Sightings for January 21
An adult "Kumlien's" ICELAND GULL was found at the Rotary Marshes in
downtown Kelowna (CC,RT). From the boardwalk look N. along the shoreline
towards Manhattan Point and the gulls, including the Iceland Gull were
perched on the dock.
At Robert Lake two GLAUCOUS GULLS were amongst other gulls on the ice
(CC,RT). One was a second year bird and the other an adult.
In a ditch along Acland Road in Rutland there was a male NORTHERN SHOVELER
(CC,RT).
An imm. GOLDEN EAGLE was at the Marshall's Feedlot in Kelowna (CC,RT).
Fields along K.L.O Road in Kelowna had large flocks of CANADA GEESE
including at least 6 classic CACKLING GEESE (CC,RT).
Three ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were in the fields at the Kelowna Airport (CC,RT)
and a single NORTHERN HARRIER was seen flying low over fields along Acland
Road (RT).
On January 20, a VIRGINIA RAIL was heard at the west pond, near a wooden
bridge, at the Chichester Bird Sanctuary (CC,RT).
Also on the 20th, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen at the spring near the
beginning of the Scenic Canyon portion of the Mission Ck Greenway (CC,RT).
This bird has been present since the Christmas Bird Count on Dec 17.
Along Dunsmuir Road in the Hall Road subdivision of Kelowna there was a
SPOTTED TOWHEE and a VARIED THRUSH on Jan 20 (CC,RT).
