Allegheny County:

On the evening of 8/14 at Bald Knob pond, 1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER (here
since Friday 8/12), 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (here since Friday 8/12), 6 Pectoral
Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 2
Spotted Sandpiper, American Kestrel (MV). Also reported on 8/14 were 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Yellow Warbler, Black-and-
white Warbler, House Wren, 2 Baltimore Oriole, 8 Eastern Meadowlark (DY). On
the evening of 8/16 at Bald Knob, a molting adult STILT SANDPIPER and a
juvenile WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were present among several more shorebirds
representing the more common species; the white-rumped and about six or
seven other shorebirds were chased off by an accipiter and did not stick
around, but the stilt sandpiper was still there as of 6:45 pm; also an
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, which was only present at the pond for a few minutes
before moving off in the direction of the coal pond (GM). On 8/18 at Bald
Knob pond, sightings included 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2
Solitary Sandpiper, 5 Pectoral Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 2
Least Sandpiper, 4 Spotted Sandpiper, 3 Semi-palmated Plover, Killdeer,
Green Heron, 4 Eastern Kingbird, Barn Swallow; on 8/19, Osprey, GRASSHOPPER
SPARROW, HENSLOW'S SPARROW, Savannah Sparrow (all three were juveniles
sitting together), Cooper's Hawk (MV). At Bald Knob on 8/20, sightings
included 4-6 Greater Yellowlegs, 5-6 Pectoral Sandpiper, 4-5 Western
Sandpiper, 1-2 Semi-Palmated Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, 2 Semi-Palmated
Plover, Killdeer, Pied-Billed Grebe, young Vesper Sparrow, Field Sparrow,
Chipping Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow (RT). At Bald Knob on 8/21, 2 Lesser
Yellowlegs, 8 Pectoral Sandpiper, 6 Least Sandpiper, 3 Spotted Sandpiper,
Solitary Sandpiper, 3 Semi-palmated Plover, Pied-billed Grebe, Ring-necked
Duck, Belted Kingfisher, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER (MV).

At the nearby coal pond on 8/14, Spotted Sandpiper, hen Ring-necked Duck;
Great Horned Owl on Bald Knob Road (MV).

At Moody Road on 8/14, drake Ring-necked Duck continues (MV).

On 8/15 in East Liberty, sightings included Willow Flycatcher, female
Chestnut-sided Warbler, Yellow Warbler; on 8/17, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH,
Yellow Warbler, Chesnut-sided Warbler (DY).

In Etna on 8/15, 14 Common Nighthawk; on 8/16, HORNED GREBE, 8 juvenile and
2 adult Great Blue Heron, 83 Mallard, American Black Duck (DY).

At Canonsburg Lake on 8/20, Great Egret, 2 Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted
Sandpiper (RT).


Beaver County:

On the morning of 8/14 at Little Blue, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 2 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, Short-billed Dowitcher, 4 Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper, Belted
Kingfisher; on 8/15, 4 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 8 Lesser Yellowlegs, Short-billed
Dowitcher, 3 Solitary Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 2
Spotted Sandpiper, 2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL (MV). At Little Blue on the evening
of 8/16, sightings included an adult WILSON's PHALAROPE, 2 AMERICAN AVOCET,
11 Lesser Yellowlegs, 4 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 3 Solitary Sandpiper, Pectoral
Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher, 2 Semi-palmated Plover (MV). On 8/19 at
Little Blue, 6 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 6 Pectoral Sandpiper, Solitary Sandpiper,
6 Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 7 Least Sandpiper, 3 Semi-palmated Plover; on
8/20, 1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER (1st county record), Short-billed Dowitcher,
4 Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 3 Solitary Sandpiper,
Semi-palmated Plover, Least Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Sandpiper (MV). At
Little Blue on 8/21, 2 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, Pectoral
Sandpiper, 2 Solitary Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Plover, Spotted Sandpiper,
Least Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Sandpiper, Caspian Tern, 4 Ring-billed Gull,
Osprey, NORTHERN HARRIER, 2 Cooper's Hawk (MV).

On the morning of 8/14 at Ambridge Reservoir, 12 Solitary Sandpiper, Lesser
Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Sandpiper, 2 Green Heron, 5 Belted
Kingfisher; on 8/20, Common Loon, 2 Green-winged Teal, 7 Solitary Sandpiper,
Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 Least Sandpiper, 2 Green Heron (MV).

On the morning of 8/14 at Independence Marsh, 3 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2
Solitary Sandpiper, 2 Pectoral Sandpiper, 4 Least Sanpdiper, 2 Semi-palmated
Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, 4 Green Heron; on 8/20, Wilson's Snipe, 2
Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Solitary Sandpiper, Semi-palmated
Plover, Least Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 4 Green Heron (MV). On
8/21 at Independence Marsh, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 10
Pectoral Sandpiper, 2 Solitary Sandpiper, 13 Least Sandpiper (MV).


Crawford County:

At Miller's Ponds on 8/20, Great Egret (MK).


Erie County:

At Gull Point on 8/13, WILLET, 3 Black-bellied Plover, 3 Semi-palmated
Plover, Greater Yellowlegs, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 6 SANDERLING, 1 DUNLIN, 2
Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 2 Northern Harrier, Caspian Tern, 4 Common Tern, 2
Bonaparte's Gull (MV). On 8/14, A juvenile LITTLE GULL flew past Gull Point
around 9:15 am, about the time the winds shifted around to the north; this
is the earliest fall record in Erie County (JM). Also on 8/14, 2 STILT
SANDPIPER (JM). At Presque Isle on 8/15: at Gull Point--2 juvenile
Bonaparte's Gull, Dunlin, 4 Semi-palmated Sandpiper, 4 Killdeer, 4 Caspian
Tern, Northern Harrier, MERLIN (flyover), Green Heron, Short-billed
Dowitcher, 3 Great Black-backed Gull, Belted Kingfisher, 2 Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher, Black-billed Cuckoo; on Gull Pt. Trail--3 Northern Flicker; on
Pine Tree Trail--Black and White Warbler, Baltimore Oriole, 2 Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher, Red-eyed Vireo, 12+ Cedar Waxwing (adults and juveniles),
Eastern Phoebe, 2 Eastern Wood Pewee, Great Crested Flycatcher, 2 immature
Common Yellowthroat, Wild Turkey, 2 Baltimore Oriole; on Sidewalk
Trail/Ridge Trail--3 adult and 2 juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker, 3 Downy
Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, Wood Thrush, 2 Baltimore Oriole,
Eastern Wood Pewee, Eastern Phoebe (BV). At Gull Point on 8/20, WHIMBREL;
and on 8/21, 3 RED KNOT (JM).

>From last week: at Gull Point, immature PEREGRINE FALCON on 8/8; 7 WILLET
and 3 RED KNOT on 8/10 (JM).


Venango County:

At Buttermilk Hill on 8/20, sightings included OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and a
few warblers appearing to be migrating (KG).

At Two Mile Run County Park on 8/20, SORA, Wilson's Snipe (KG).


Westmoreland County:

At Friendship Farms in Pleasant Unity on 8/15, sightings included 15+
eastern meadowlark, savannah sparrow, 2 female BOBOLINK, eastern kingbird,
eastern phoebe (JT).


Nearby locales:

The Three Rivers and Westmoreland County Bird Clubs took a trip to Conneaut
Harbor Ohio on 8/13. Sightings included 2 Green Heron, 3 Sora, Black-bellied
Plover, 10+ Semi-palmated Plover, 8 American Avocet, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 8
Lesser Yellowlegs, Ruddy Turnstone, 4 Sanderling, 12 Semi-palmated
Sandpiper, 10 Least Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, 2 Pectoral Sandpiper, 5
Short-billed Dowitcher, approximately 50 Bonaparte's Gull, 300 Ring-billed
Gull, 50 Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Caspian Tern, Common Tern,
