Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for March 9,
2006. This report covers the period from March 3rd to March 9th and will be
updated on March 16th.
The two TUNDRA SWAN were reported again in Coventry, seen from Old Flat River
Road on the Flat River Reservoir on the 3rd, and on the 8th, a WOOD DUCK was
sighted. Also in Coventry, at Johnson's Pond, 1 EURASIAN WIGEON was reported
on the 6th. On the 8th, at the corner of New London Turnpike and Ten Rod Road,
1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. Flying over Route 95 between exit 7 and 8, also
in Coventry, on the 6th, 1 COMMON RAVEN.
Two EVENING GROSBEAK were observed on the ground below the feeders at the
farm house along Ponagansett Road in Foster on the
9th.
On the 8th, at the East Providence Reservoir, 2 GLAUCOUS GULL, 1 ICELAND GULL
and 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. On the 9th, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and 1
GLAUCOUS GULL was reported. On the 5th, 1 REDHEAD was reported along with 1
PIED-BILLED GREBE, 7 NORTHERN PINTAIL and 82 RUDDY DUCK. At Watchemoket Cove
in East Providence on the 6th, 2 BLACK-HEADED GULL.
At Sachuest Point in Middletown on the 5th, 11 HARLEQUIN DUCK, 5 LONG-TAILED
DUCK and 2 GREAT CORMORANT. BRANT have also
been seen here in numbers, and have been reported at other coastal locations
this week. On the 5th, 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT on Mitchell's Lane, about 1/4
mile north of Third Beach Road in Middletown and at Norman Bird Sanctuary that
day, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 3 HERMIT THRUSH and 1 GREAT HORNED OWL
In Perryville on the 8th, 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was sighted.
Nine SNOW GEESE were reported from Tiverton on the 9th.
