Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 16. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

A CRESTED CARACARA is regularly being seen near the Corvallis Airport. Take
Hwy 99W south from Corvallis, turning west on Airport Road. Drive about a
mile and a half to a sharp left turn, then a sharp right turn. The bird is
being seen in that area, especially over the north field. Parking is tight,
but keep well off the roadway and do not block side roads.

A possible OLIVE-BACKED PIPIT was reported March 8 near Hines. A possible
EASTERN TOWHEE was reported March 9 coming to a Lake Oswego feeder. A
possible EASTERN PHOEBE was seen March 10 near Sutherlin. The FALCATED DUCK
is still being seen in Eugene along Hwy 99W about a mile north of Belt Line
Road. The TUFTED DUCK is still on Meares Lake near Tillamook. The Peoria
Road BLUE JAY was seen again March 11 southeast of Corvallis. Two
CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS and three LAPLAND LONGSPURS were still being
reported on private roads near the Corvallis Airport.

FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS were close to shore during the week with several
coming into estuaries and a number washing up dead on the beaches. A number
of RHINOCEROS AUKLETS are now being found dead on the beaches. A dead HORNED
PUFFIN was found March 7 on the beach south of Yaquina Bay.

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK continues to be seen near Flores Lake near Cape Blanco. A
bright male MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was near Cape Blanco March 12. On March 10 the
seed supply at Millicoma Marsh in Coos Bay attracted the CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW and six WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS. On March 11 two ROCK SANDPIPERS
were at the rocks near Garibaldi. Another was at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River March 15.

On March 12 a SAYıS PHOEBE was at the Ridgefield, WA High School. The MUTE
SWAN is still being seen at Steigerwald NWR near Washougal. The Eugene
Airport FERRUGINOUS HAWK is still being seen, but the SNOWY OWL has not been
reported recently.

Thatıs it for this week.
