In Fox Chapel on 3/13, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 2 Common Mergansers, 1 LESSER
SCAUP, 1 American Coot, 17 Ring-billed Gulls (DY).
At Lock & Dam #3 in Cheswick on 3/13, sightings included 18 LESSER SCAUP (DY).
On 3/13 in the Imperial area, 1 hen Red-breasted Merganser, 6 Ring-necked
Ducks, 1 dark-phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2 Horned Larks (DY); on 3/18, 1
American Coot, 2 American Black Ducks, 23 Ring-necked Ducks, 6 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER (MV).
At Six-Mile Island on 3/18, 8 Buffleheads (DY).
In Blawnox on 3/18, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 3 Common Goldeneyes (DY).
On 3/18 at Reid's Marina in Cheswick, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Bufflehead (DY).
In Tarentum on 3/18, 3 Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Buffleheads, 1 Eastern Phoebe (DY).
In Findlay Township on 3/18, sightings included Red-winged Blackbirds, 3
LESSER SCAUP, American Coot, 2 REDHEADS, 5 Ring-necked Ducks, 1 Bufflehead (MV).
Along the Ohio River at Woods Run, Emsworth Dam, and Dashield's Dam on 3/18,
1 REDHEAD, Double-crested Cormorants, Pied-billed Grebe, Hooded Mergansers,
Red-breasted Mergansers, 34 Turkey Vultures (MV).


ARMSTRONG COUNTY:

At Keystone Reservoir on 3/11, sightings included 3 American Wigeon, 1
American Black Duck, 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 5 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 22 Ring-necked
Ducks, 54 LESSER SCAUP, 3 Hooded Mergansers, 5 Common Mergansers, 14
Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Pied-billed Grebes, 8 HORNED GREBES, 4 American
Coots, 1 Eastern Phoebe (MHi, RHi).


BEAVER COUNTY:

On 3/12 at Ambridge Reservoir, sightings included 2 TUNDRA SWANS, 2 Wood
Ducks, 2 GADWALL, 52 Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Greater Scaup, 92 LESSER SCAUP, 1
Bufflehead, 13 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 1 Pied-billed
Grebe, 3 HORNED GREBES (GM). On 3/17 sightings included 1 Common Loon (in
breeding plumage), 7 HORNED GREBES, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 16 SCAUP (Greater &
Lesser), 3 Ruddy Ducks, 13 Buffleheads, 90-100 Ring-necked Ducks, 1 Wood
Duck, 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 3 REDHEADS, 6 GADWALL,
1 FIELD SPARROW (singing), male Ring-necked Pheasant crossing Green Garden
Road nearby (MV).
At Independence Marsh on 3/12, 4 Wood Ducks, 12 American Wigeon, 16
Ring-necked Ducks, 12 LESSER SCAUP, 7 Hooded Mergansers (GM). On 3/17, 1
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 7 Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Wood Ducks (MV).
On the Beaver and Ohio Rivers on 3/12, sightings included Wood Ducks,
American Black Ducks, LESSER SCAUP, Buffleheads, Hooded Mergansers, Common
Mergansers, and HORNED GREBES (GM). On 3/17, 11 American Black Ducks, 6 Wood
Ducks, 2 Buffleheads, 3 American Coots, 1 Mute Swan, 2 Black Swans, 2 Common
Mergansers (MV).
At Beaver Lakes Golf Course on 3/12, 1 Ring-necked Duck, 2 Buffleheads (GM).
First arrivals for Beaver County on 3/12 were TREE SWALLOW (1 at
Independence Marsh), WILSON'S SNIPE (1 at Independence Marsh), and Eastern
Phoebe (1 at Rochester); 3-4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS persist in the fields near the
corner of Park and PA-151 in Independence Township; About 100 Ring-billed
Gulls were on the Ohio River (GM).
In Darlington Township on 3/16, 12 Wood Ducks, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS (MV).
In South Beaver Township on 3/16, 4 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, 2 Turkey Vultures (MV).
In New Beaver on 3/16, 2 Wood Ducks, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS, 1 Bufflehead (MV).
At Little Blue on 3/17, 30 sleeping TUNDRA SWANS, 5 Ring-necked Ducks (MV).
At the pond next to Big Beaver Wetlands on 3/19, HORNED GREBE, 9 Ring-necked
Ducks (MV).

BUTLER COUNTY:

At Moraine State Park on 3/13, a total of 51 species were seen including
LESSER SCAUP, BALD EAGLE, American Black Duck, BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, Ring-necked Ducks, NORTHERN PINTAIL, MERLIN (Rt. 522,
going toward the Zion church), Common Mergansers, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS,
Turkey Vulture, Red-breasted Mergansers, Common Goldeneye (RT). On 3/18,
sightings included 5 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 20+ TUNDRA SWANS, 1 Common
Loon, 2 Hooded Mergansers, Bufflehead, 50+ LESSER SCAUP, American Coots, 6
HORNED GREBES, 5 Ruddy Ducks, 30 Red-breasted Mergansers, 1 HERMIT THRUSH, 5
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, Wood Ducks, 2 juvenile BALD EAGLES, American Wigeon,
Eastern Phoebe (BV).


CLARION COUNTY:

Near Leatherwood on 3/14 and 3/17, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE perched atop a snag (CW).
In Sligo on 3/13, a singing WINTER WREN, and that night AMERICAN WOODCOCKS
were heard peenting (CW).
In Curlsville on 3/17, 7 WILSON'S SNIPE, 13 Hooded Mergansers, several SCAUP
Sp. (CW).


ERIE COUNTY:

From last week: 20+ flyover SNOW GEESE at the Erie Zoo on 3/11; In Presque
Isle State Park on 3/6 and 3/7, 1 MERLIN; on 3/10, 11 SANDHILL CRANES in
Albion; 2 flyover SANDHILL CRANES at Long Pond on 3/12 (JM).
From Erie on 3/13, 7 flyover SANDHILL CRANES headed east along the lakeshore
(BC).
At Presque Isle State Park on 3/18, an EARED GREBE was spotted off Leo's
Landing; 23 species of waterfowl were seen that day (RS).


INDIANA COUNTY:

Near Shelocta on 3/12, sightings included 45 Ring-billed Gulls, 2 Eastern
Meadowlarks (MHi, RHi).
At Yellow Creek State Park on 3/13, the winds had most of the birds tucked
into the shore pretty tight; sightings included BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, NORTHERN PINTAILS, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Mergansers,
TUNDRA SWANS, Ring-necked Ducks, LESSER SCAUP, American Wigeon, and 2 BALD
EAGLES (ER); on 3/16, a COMMON GOLDENEYE X HOODED MERGANSER HYBRID was seen
near the canoe-rental building (ER).
In Clarksburg on 3/16, sightings included Turkey Vulture, FOX SPARROW, 12
TUNDRA SWANS, AMERICAN WOODCOCK, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 3 Eastern Towhees (MC).


LAWRENCE COUNTY:

In Plain Grove on 3/16, 25-30 SANDHILL CRANES, 2 BALD EAGLES, 16 NORTHERN
SHOVELERS, 72 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (MV).
On Golf Course Road on 3/16, 1 American Wigeon, 5 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 15
GREEN-WINGED TEAL (MV); on McConahy Road on 3/16, Ring-necked Ducks, 2
REDHEADS (MV).
At Black Swamp on 3/16, 1 adult BALD EAGLE, 43 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 Ruddy
Duck, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 4 American Wigeon, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 7 Wood
Ducks, Ring-necked Ducks (MV).
At Edinburg Lake on 3/16, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 1 adult
BALD EAGLE, 1 Red-shouldered Hawk, 3 Turkey Vultures (MV).
In Slippery Rock Township on 3/16, 7 American Coots, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 1
Pied-billed Grebe, 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 14 American Wigeon, 1 LESSER SCAUP,
Ring-necked Duck, 14 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (MV).
At the Atlantic States gravel pond on 3/16 and 3/19, REDHEADS, Ring-necked
Ducks; also on 3/16, 3 LESSER SCAUP, 4 Greater Scaup, 2 Buffleheads, 9
Hooded Mergansers, 11 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 2 CANVASBACKS (MV).
On Edwards Road and Wampum-New Galillee Road in New Beaver on 3/19,
sightings included 2 TRUMPETER SWANS, Eastern Phoebe, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (MV).


SOMERSET COUNTY:

IN northern Somerset County the week of 3/12, Eastern Phoebe, American
Woodcock, Red-winged Blackbirds, PURPLE FINCH, Eastern Meadowlark (TR).
AMERICAN WOODCOCKS were heard peenting in an unspecified location in
Somerset this week (SB).


WARREN COUNTY:

In Warren on 3/13, TUNDRA SWANS, 3 Turkey Vultures, 1 adult GOLDEN EAGLE (JF).


WASHINGTON COUNTY:

During a morning bird count in rural West Pike Run Township on 3/13, singing
and calling Eastern Meadowlarks were abundant throughout, as well as singing
and calling Red-winged Blackbirds, 2 singing Eastern Phoebes, 1 crowing
Ring-necked Pheasant; and 1 beautiful male Ring-necked Pheasant was seen in
a farm field edge along SR2038; on 3/15, another male Ring-necked Pheasant
was seen walking near a stream from along T457 (AT).
At Canonsburg Lake on 3/13, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 5 Wood
Ducks (MV); on 3/18, 2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 1 CHIPPING
SPARROW, 4 Wood Ducks (RT).
In Peters Township on 3/13, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Pied-billed Grebe (MV);
through 3/14, the BALTIMORE ORIOLE remains present at a backyard feeder
(this bird has been present since 1/14/06) (MV).
At the AMD pond on 3/13, 1 Hooded Merganser, 2 American Coots, 2 American
Black Ducks, 1 Eastern Phoebe (MV).
Above New Eagle on 3/19, 9 Turkey Vultures (LS).


WESTMORELAND COUNTY:

On 3/18 at Jacob's Creek, sightings included 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 9
American Wigeon, 5 LESSER SCAUP, 6 Buffleheads, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 7
Red-breasted Mergansers (reported to LH by Sarah & Randi Gerrish).
At Bridgeport on 3/18, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers (reported to LH by Sarah &
Randi Gerrish).
At Acme Dam on 3/18, 18 TUNDRA SWANS, 5 Ring-necked Duck females (reported
to LH by Sarah & Randi Gerrish).
At Donegal Lake on 3/18, sightings included 2 Buffleheads, 2 Red-breasted
Mergansers (reported to LH by Sarah & Randi Gerrish).
At Trout Run Reservoir on 3/18, sightings included 15 American Black Ducks,
1 Turkey Vulture (reported to LH by Sarah & Randi Gerrish).
At Keystone on 3/18, 2 Turkey Vultures (reported to LH by Sarah & Randi
Gerrish).
