Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.
The CARACARA near the Corvallis Airport was last reported March 18. It had
been moving farther afield so may still be in the general area. On March 21
a SLATY-BACKED GULL was along the Columbia River near the Portland Airport.
The FALCATED DUCK continues to be seen along Hwy 99W north of Eugene. The
TUFTED DUCK on Meares Lake near Tillamook is still being seen. A SNOWY OWL
was seen March 17 at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.
The March 18 offshore boat trip out of Newport saw an immature SHORT-TAILED
ALBATROSS, four LAYSAN ALBATROSS, and over 50 BLACK-LEGGED ALBATROSS.
A lone EMPEROR GOOSE was seen March 18 near Astoria. Three CASPIAN TERNS
were at Seaside March 21, one was near Astoria the next day. A WESTERN GULL
was near Lebanon March 18, and a GLAUCOUS GULL was seen March 16 near
Eugene. A late flock of SANDHILL CRANES was over Eugene March 18.
Two EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES were in midtown Merrill March 19. They have been
in the area at least two years.
