March 26, 2006. 10:00 pm update. Compiled by Rick Schortinghuis and

A continuing Rare Bird Alert for a PAINTED BUNTING

Sunday, March 26
A PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way in
Brentwood Bay north of Victoria. It was seen mostly at the feeder in the
front lawn. It was seen between 7:00am and 4:00pm mostly feeding at the
base of the feeder on the front lawn at 906 Damelart Way. If you are going
to observe this bird please do not park in the driveway. Park before you
get to the end of the cul-de-sac on the side of the street. Walk up to
the left hand side of the driveway so not to disturb the birds feeding at
the feeder. Walk through the carport and up to the sundeck to observe the
feeder from above. This is the sixth day in a row the bird has been
seen.
A ROCK WREN was seen again at Island View Beach in Central Saanich.

Saturday, March 25
The PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way
in Brentwood Bay.
Also today there were 5 CANVASBACKS seen along the Gorge between Colquitz
and Admirals.

Friday, March 24
The PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way
in Brentwood Bay.
3 CANVASBACKS were seen at the south end of Esquimalt Lagoon.

Thursday, March 23
The PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way.
Also at the same location was 1 HERMIT THRUSH and 1 TOWNSEND'S WARBLER.
At Island View Beach a ROCK WREN was seen again 100 metres north of the
boat launch.

Wednesday, March 22
A female PAINTED BUNTING was seen again at 906 Damelart Way in Brentwood.
If this record is accepted it will be the first record for the Victoria
checklist and only the second for BC. Today the bird was seen off and on
between 7:00am and 2:00pm underneath the feeder in the front lawn and also
flying to the cul-de-sac and the vacant lot across the road.
Also today, a male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was reported at Trillium Place in
Deep Cove.
A male REDHEAD was seen again on Kings Pond.

Tuesday, March 21
A female PAINTED BUNTING was seen coming to a feeder at 906 Damelart Way
in Brentwood Bay.
On Mt Wells there was 1 BLUE GROUSE, 1 BAND-TAILED PIGEON, 1 MERLIN and 1
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK.

Monday, March 20
An early OSPREY was over Mill Hill Regional Park in Langford.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was again over Mt Wells off Humpback Road in Langford.
