This is the Michigan Statewide Bird Report for Thursday, August 25th 2005.

In LIVINGSTON COUNTY, a most unexpected occurrence of a WHITE-EARED
HUMMINGBIRD* took place at the home of Jim and Melissa Pappas, from August
18th, to August 20th. The species is native to Mexico, with sporadic records
north to the US-Mexican border in south Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. If
accepted by the Michigan Bird Records Committee, the LIVINGSTON COUNTY
record would represent only the second record of the species east of the
Mississippi River, and the most northern occurrence of the species. It was
observed most recently at 6:55am on Saturday, August 20th.
In BERRIEN COUNTY, a PARASITIC JAEGER was seen offshore of New Buffalo on
August 21st. A STILT SANDPIPER was present at Three Oaks Sewage Ponds on
August 24th.
In WASHTENAW COUNTY, a CATTLE EGRET was observed on August 18th, at the
intersection of M-14 and Napier Road.
In OAKLAND COUNTY, a STILT SANDPIPER was located this week at the American
Center Marsh. It was present until at least August 23rd.
In SAGINAW COUNTY August 22nd, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen at the
Freeland Sewage Ponds on Pierce Road, located just east of M-47, southeast
of Freeland.
In MASON COUNTY on August 20th, 2-3 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, and a BAIRD’S
SANDPIPER were found at the Ludington Wastewater Treatment Plant.
In IOSCO COUNTY at Tawas Point State Park, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and
GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL were reported on August 22nd.
In BAY COUNTY at the Karn Plant on August 22nd, 3 SNOWY EGRETS were reported
seen.
