Highlights

A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen in Biddeford and a SNOWY OWL was seen again at
Mount Desert Island.

GREAT EGRET, SNOWY EGRET, and GLOSSY IBIS were reported in southern Maine.

EASTERN PHOEBES moved into the state in good numbers this week, with many
reports throughout most of the state.

Waterfowl reports continue throughout the state.

York County

A GREAT EGRET was seen on March 29 along Route 103 in York in the Wheeler
Restoration Area.

Birds at a yard in Hills Beach, Biddeford include 1 CAROLINA WREN, several
FOX SPARROWS, 1 SWAMP SPARROW, and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS. On the Biddeford
Pool survey on March 28 there were RED-NECKED GREBES, 1 SAVANNAH SPARROW,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, WOOD DUCKS, 1 CAROLINA WREN, KILDEER, 1
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, and a SHORT-EARED OWL. The owl was seen on the Rachel
Carson National Wildlife Refuge Property off of Old Pool Road. At Fortune's
Rock Beach in Biddeford there were 6 HOODED MERGANSERS, 1 pair of NORTHERN
SHOVELERS, 1 REDHEAD, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, and BLUE, and GREEN-WINGED TEAL.
SAVANNAH SPARROWS were in the wrack at Biddeford's Public Beach. Numerous
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were at the end of Hills Beach Road.

An EASTERN TOWHEE was under a feeder in Saco on March 27. An EASTERN PHOEBE
and BELTED KINGFISHER were seen in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco. A TREE
SWALLOW was along Route 112, Saco.

EASTERN PHOEBES returned to Hollis along with YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS.

Scarborough Marsh Area

At Scarborough Marsh there were 8 SNOW GEESE, a BROAD-WINGED HAWK, up to 15
GREEN WINGED TEAL, and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR.

Nine HOODED MERGANSERS were on the pond off Pleasant Hill Road in
Scarborough.

A NORTHERN FLICKER and 2 FOX SPARROWS were seen on River Road.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE is still being seen at the Industrial Park.

A pair of AMERICAN WIGEONS were seen in the ponds off of Eastern Road.

A WINTER WREN was on Ross Road.

A GREAT BLUE HERON was in the Dunstan area of Scarborough Marsh

Three EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were at Fuller Farm in West Scarborough.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

Three GLOSSY IBIS were seen in the marshes off Bowery Beach Road (Rte 77) in
Cape Elizabeth, and 1 GREAT EGRET, was in the marsh off Sawyer Road. At
least 24 BRANT were at Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth on March 28. Another
GREAT EGRET was at Great Pond along with 20 WOOD DUCKS.

There was a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER in Hinckley Park in South Portland on
March 26.

A CAROLINA WREN was singing in a yard in Portland.

Two FOX SPARROWS were at the feeders at the Wild Bird Center of Yarmouth.

Birds at Florida Lake in Freeport included: a pair of GREAT HORNED OWLS,
HERMIT THRUSH, PIED-BILLED GREBE, and NORTHERN PINTAIL. A CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER has been coming to a mealworm feeder on Maquoit Drive in Freeport.

A NORTHERN HARRIER was seen in Pownal.

EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and KILDEERS have returned to Bridgton.

Twelve owls were heard on one owl monitoring route. The route starts in
Naples off Rte. 302 and ends up on Rte. 107. There were 7 NORTHERN SAW-WHET
OWLS, 4 BARRED OWLS, and 1 GREAT HORNED OWL.

At a yard in Hiram there were 2 EASTERN PHOEBES, SONG SPARROWS, and 2
Red-SHOULDERED HAWKS.

At Rangeley Plantation, on South Shore Drive there were 1 BARRED OWL, 2
PILEATED WOODPECKERS, 150+ COMMON REDPOLLS, 1 PINE SISKIN, and 1 PURPLE
FINCH.

Midcoast

Seven FOX SPARROWS were in a yard in Brunswick, and a lingering NORTHERN
SHRIKE was along Highland Road in Brunswick. At Crystal Spring Farm there
was an EASTERN BLUEBIRD in the fields. The BALD EAGLE is back on its nest on
the New Meadows River, off of Route 1 in Brunswick.

A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was in a yard in Phippsburg.

A GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, 2 SNOWY EGRETS, and RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen at
Reid State Park in Georgetown.

SONG SPARROWS were in Boothbay.

A GLAUCOUS GULL and a FOX SPARROW were at Pemaquid Point on March 28.

At the Weskeag Marsh in South Thomaston were 40 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 pair of
NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, 3 KILDEER, and
1 GREAT BLUE HERON.

In Warren there was an EASTERN BLUEBIRD on Western Road. The 2 female
BARROWS GOLDENEYES were seen in the Georges River.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE, AMERICAN KESTREL, COMMON REDPOLLS, and SNOW BUNTINGS were
seen at Clarry Hill in Union this week.

EASTERN PHOEBES and FOX SPARROWS were in Lincolnville.

Central Maine

Two SONG SPARROWS were in Lewiston on March 25.

Between 1,000 and 1,100 COMMON MERGANSERS were along Shore Road in Gardiner.

A GREAT CORMORANT was seen along the river in Hallowell.

TREE SWALLOWS were reported from Augusta on March 24 and 27, and the first
EASTERN PHOEBE was heard on March 28. Also seen in Augusta were 60 BOHEMIAN
WAXWINGS, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW, 1 NORTHERN FLICKER, and 1 RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLET. A NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen in a beaver pond in Augusta, and an
EASTERN BLUEBIRD was at the Arboretum.

At Messalonskee Lake in Belgrade there were RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1 NORTHERN
PINTAIL, and 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE. A CAROLINA WREN was singing in a yard in
Gardiner on March 29.

An AMERICAN KESTREL was in Albion on March 26.

In Monroe an AMERICAN KESTREL was seen on March 25.

Fifty BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, and 1 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK were
seen in Dixmont.

In Troy there were 2 KILLDEER and an AMERICAN KESTREL.

An AMERICAN KESTERL was also seen in Etna.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was in Plymouth Pond on March 25 along with other
waterfowl.

Highlights of birds found in a yard on Kaler Street in Winterport were
13 COMMON REDPOLLS and 1 RUSTY BLACKBIRD. A SNOW GOOSE was in the
Penobscot River.

Ten BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen along Route 1A in Lucerne Hills.

In Hamden there was a COOPER'S HAWK.

On Friday March 24, 15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were feeding on crabapples on Main
St. in Orono; and 20 were feeding on crabapples at the Fields Pond Audubon
Center, Holden.

Eastern Maine

A SPRUCE GROUSE was seen in North Blue Hill, on private property.

A SNOWY OWL was seen on Penobscot and Sargent Mountains, on Mount Desert
Island. The bird was seen on south ridge trail of Penobscot, near the
summit, it was seen again half way to the summit of Sargent, along with a
PEREGRINE FALCON. At the summit of Mount Desert Island's second tallest peak
the SNOWY OWL was seen again, as were WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 2
PEREGRINE FALCONS.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen off of Bar Harbor Wharf.

FOX, WHITE-THROATED, SONG, and AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were in a yard in
Southwest Harbor.

At Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge there were COMMON GOLDENEYES,
BUFFLEHEADS, COMON MERGANSERS, 1 TURKEY VULTURE, and 1 pair of WOOD DUCKS.

Ten NORTHERN PINTAILS were in a pond along Rte 1 in East Machias.

Two SNOW BUNTINGS were on the rooftop of Lubec Consolidated School.

Northern Maine

COMMON GRACKLES were in seen New Sweden, along with COMMON REDPOLLS.

In Fort Kent there were 4 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 1 AMERICAN ROBIN, COMMON
REDPOLLS, PINE SISKINS, and a PILEATED WOODPECKER.
