SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

Tom Benson reported a male VERMILLION FLYCATCHER in Covington Park near
Big Morongo Preserve. Numerous hummingbirds were seen at the feeders at
the Morongo Preserve including RUFOUS, ANNA’S, COSTAS, and BLACK-CHINNED.
To reach the preserve, take Hwy 62 from I 10. Turn south on Park Avenue
from Highway 62 in Morongo Valley. Turn left at Covington Park, then do a
quick right, left, right into the preserve. For more information, visit
www.bigmorongo.org .

He also reported RUFOUS-CROWNED and SAGE SPARROWS behind the CSU San
Bernardino campus

Curtis Armstrong reported quite a few GLOSSY IBIS at Baldwin Lake east of
Big Bear Lake.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY

>From the Whitewater River delta, Chet McGaugh reported thousands of birds
of not very many species, mostly gulls, including a few YELLOW
FOOTED GULLS, terns, herons, and pelicans.

Chet McGaugh, John Green and Bill Hobson birded the Desert Center area and
reported a number of migrants including WILLOW FLYCATCHER (20+), YELLOW,
ORANGE-CROWNED, NASHVILLE and MACGILLIVRAY’S WARBLERS, COMMON

WESTERN TANAGER, SAVANNAH SPARROW, BENDIRE’S THRASHER, SOLITARY SANDPIPER,
and many EURASIAN COLLORED DOVES. Take Interstate 10 for 45 miles east of
Indio to the Rice Road/Highway 177 exit. Head north and turn left on
Kaiser. Go north to the main entrance of the Lake Tamarisk Golf Club, then
go east to the lake and club area. Although much of the area is presently
open to the public, it is private property. Bird with respect towards this
and stay out of the way
of golfers and off the greens!

Tom Benson birded the San Jacinto mountains and reported WHITE-HEADED
WOODPECKERS at the back end of Lake Fulmor, TRI-COLORED BLACKBIRDS coming
to feeders at Hurkey Creek Campground. He heard a GRAY VIREO singing in
the gully below the base of Santa Rosa Mountain Road. He also reported a
large flock (25+) of PINYON JAYS at Pinyon Flats near the intersection of
Pinyon Drive and Rockwood Drive.
