Rare Bird Alert for a SAY'S PHOEBE
PAINTED BUNTING continues
Friday, March 31
A SAY'S PHOEBE was seen at Whiffen Spit in Sooke. It was seen towards the
end of the spit, past the washrooms on the inside. Further updates on this
bird would be appreciated.
A PAINTED BUNTING remains at 906 Damelart Way in Brentwood Bay north
of Victoria. It was seen off and on throughout the day. If you are
going to observe this bird please do not park in the driveway. Park
before you get to the end of the cul-de-sac on the side of the street.
Walk up to the left hand side of the driveway so not to disturb the birds
feeding at the feeder. Walk through the carport and up to the sundeck to
observe the feeder from above. It now appears that this bird is more likely
a second year male as bright coloured plumage features are becoming more
apparent.
Thursday, March 30
The PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way
in Brentwood Bay.
Also today, 2 OSPREYS were seen near their nest behind the Juan de Fuca
Rec Centre. Also there were YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS singing and 2 DARK-EYED
JUNCOS of the Slate-coloured race.
At 4655 Kerryview Drive there were AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES, 2 RED
CROSSBILLS - which have been very scarce this winter - a BARRED OWL, RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRDS, and a good number of other species. Birders are welcome.
Wednesday, March 29
The PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way
in Brentwood Bay. It was seen in both the am and pm.
One MOURNING DOVE and 5 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS were observed from the north
parking lot at Island View Beach Regional Park in Central Saanich.
Tuesday, March 28
The PAINTED BUNTING was seen again throughout the day at 906 Damelart Way
