ALLEGHENY COUNTY:

At Sewickley Heights Park on 3/29, A BROWN THRASHER was seen in the upper
meadow of the park; and 2 AMERICAN WOODCOCK, also in the meadow, were seen
performing their mating ritual (BV).

On 3/29 at the Imperial Grasslands, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 26 WILSON'S SNIPE, 6 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 10 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 32
Ring-necked Ducks, 1 American Coot, 1 American Black Duck; on Moody Road, 2
mating Ring-necked Ducks; at Dashield's Dam, 1 BONAPARTE'S GULL (MV).

On the morning of 3/30, one GREAT EGRET feeding at the small Fox Chapel
wetland area on the Allegheny River near the Yacht Club; also seen were 3
Double-crested Cormorants, 1 American Coot, 2 Pied-billed Grebes (DY). The
GREAT EGRET was seen again on 3/31 (MF).

On 3/30 in East Liberty, 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (DY).

At 6-mile island on 3/30-3/31, 2 Double-crested Cormorants, 6 Buffleheads (DY).

At Reid's Marina in Cheswick on 3/30-3/31, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 7
Double-crested Cormorants, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS (DY).

At Lock & Dam #4 in Natrona on 3/30-3/31, 4 Hooded Mergansers (DY).

On 3/30-3/31 in Tarentum, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS (DY).

In Harrison Township on 3/30-3/31, 10 Common Mergansers, 4 Wood Ducks (DY).

Near Leetsdale on 3/31, 2 GREAT EGRETS (MV et. al.).

On 4/1 in Chartiers Township Plum Run Road area, 1 Eastern Towhee, 3
Brown-headed Cowbirds (CS).

At Frick Park on 4/1, 2 FOX SPARROWS (SS); on 4/2, WINTER WREN (JS).

At Walker Park on 4/2, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH
(reported to MV by Becky Smith).


ARMSTRONG COUNTY:

At Keystone Reservoir on 3/31, 5 LESSER SCAUP, 6 Buffleheads, 1 Red-breasted
Merganser, 2 Common Loons, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 3 HORNED GREBES, 4 American
Coots, 66 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 2 Ring-billed Gulls (MH).


BEAVER COUNTY:

In Rochester on 3/28, sightings on the river included 49 HORNED GREBES, 27
Buffleheads (26 drakes), 9 SCAUP, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 2 American Black
Ducks; on 4/1 and 4/2, Ring-billed Gulls, BONAPARTE'S GULLS, Red-breasted
Mergansers, SCAUP, Buffleheads, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 7 Double-crested
Cormorants (MV).

On the Ohio River on 3/31, 2 OSPREY, 1 immature BALD EAGLE, 14 Red-breasted
Mergansers, 1 Bufflehead, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 16 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 1
Double-crested Cormorant (MV).

At Independence Marsh on 4/1, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 35-40 TREE SWALLOWS, 4-5
NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, 4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 4 Wood Ducks, 1 American
Coot (GM, MV). On 4/2, the GREAT EGRETS remained, an AMERICAN BITTERN was
seen at the western pond, a SWAMP SPARROW, and 4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (GM).

At Ambridge Reservoir on 4/1, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 3 Buffleheads, 1 SCAUP,
1 Common Goldeneye, 2 Wood Ducks (MV); on 4/2, 18 Red-breasted Mergansers,
along with a few Bufflehead, Ring-necked Ducks, and 7-8 GREEN-WINGED TEAL (GM).

At Montgomery Dam on 4/1, 34 Double-crested Cormorants (MV).

At Little Blue on 4/1, sightings included 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE, 9 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 American Black Ducks, 3
Wood Ducks (MV).

At the Atlantic States gravel pond on 4/2, 3 REDHEADS, 9 Ring-necked Ducks,
1 Bufflehead (MV).

At the McRoberts' farm in Darlington Township on 4/2, 6 WILSON'S SNIPE (MV).


BUTLER COUNTY:

At Moraine State Park on 3/31, 4 OSPREY, 5 GREATER SCAUP, raft of American
Coots, 13 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, Ruddy Ducks, HORNED GREBES (MV).

At a pond in Muddy Creek Township on 3/31, Ring-necked Ducks, 1 REDHEAD, 2
GADWALL, 1 Bufflehead (MV).

On 4/2 at Squaw Valley Woodlands, Allegheny Township, sightings included
Red-winged Blackbird, AMERICAN BITTERN, Eastern Phoebe, PURPLE FINCH,
Killdeer (DW).


CRAWFORD COUNTY:

On 3/27 in an unspecified backyard, 1 Eastern Phoebe (LAR).

At Pymatuning State Park on 4/1, 1 PURPLE MARTIN, 3 BALD EAGLES (JS); also
seen on 4/1 were 2 "Richardson's" Canada Geese, 8 BALD EAGLES, 1
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 12 GREATER YELLOWLEGS (RStr).


ERIE COUNTY:

From 3/27 to 3/30 at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in Erie, sightings
during hawkwatches included NORTHERN HARRIERS, Sharp-shinned Hawks,
Red-shouldered Hawks, Turkey Vultures (large numbers on 3/30), "GREATER"
SANDHILL CRANE (1 on 3/27, 2 on 3/30), Common Grackles, Red-winged
Blackbirds, Cooper's Hawks, BALD EAGLE, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, PEREGRINE FALCON,
Eastern Phoebe, TREE SWALLOWS (JM).

At Presque Isle State Park on 3/27, three adult LITTLE GULLS were seen
feeding over the Erie Yacht Club, and 1 Gray Catbird was along Gull Point
Trail (JM). On 3/28, In Presque Isle Bay this morning there were at least
two adult LITTLE GULLS feeding in the Erie Yacht Club and one first-year
bird off the vista between Leo's and the park office; there were also about
100 LONG-TAILED DUCKS and several hundred HORNED GREBES in the middle of
Presque Isle Bay; these birds had arrived overnight (JM). On 3/28, there
were over 250 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 4-5 LITTLE GULLS at the Marina Lake boat
docks; most gulls rested on the docks, but the Little Gulls frequently flew
around the docks giving as-close-as-possible views for two hours; there were
at least three adults and one 1st-winter bird (SK). Also seen on 3/28 were
flocks of TUNDRA SWANS ranging from 1 to 135, flying steadily north (SK). On
3/31, 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL at B-trail (JM); on 3/30 and 4/1, at least
five LITTLE GULLS were in various areas around the park (JM, GM); and on
B-trail, 1 LONG-EARED OWL, and near Thompson Circle, 1 MERLIN (JM). Also
seen on 4/1 were 1 CASPIAN TERN (GM), 1 GREAT EGRET, 1 MERLIN at Pine Tree
Trail, 1 PINE WARBLER at end of Marina Drive, 13 FOX SPARROWS in one flock
off Sidewalk Trail (RStr). On 4/2, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Gull Point
and 1 Gray Catbird on Gull Point Trail (JM).


FAYETTE COUNTY:

At Jacob's Creek Dam on 4/1, sightings included 1 male EARED GREBE, 3
American Coots, 1 REDHEAD, 3 Buffleheads, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 Turkey
Vulture, 2 Eastern Meadowlarks (LH). On 4/2 the EARED GREBE was NOT
relocated but there were 4 GADWALL, 2 Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Pied-billed
Grebes (MF).


INDIANA COUNTY:

At Yellow Creek State Park on 3/26-3/27, 1 drake WHITE-WINGED SCOTER
(reported to MH by Gloria Lamer). On 4/1, sightings included 1 OSPREY, 1
PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1 LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW, 8 American
Black Ducks, 4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 6 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 REDHEADS, 14
Ring-necked Ducks, 9 Buffleheads, 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, 5 Ruddy Ducks,
10 Pied-billed Grebes, 3 HORNED GREBES, 351 American Coots, 3 BONAPARTE'S
GULLS, 4 Ring-billed Gulls, 50 TREE SWALLOWS, 3 FOX SPARROWS (MH et. al.).

In Clarksburg on 3/27, 1 Eastern Phoebe; on 3/28, 3 Red-shouldered Hawks, 9
Turkey Vultures, Red-winged Blackbirds; on 3/30, Red-shouldered Hawk, TREE
SWALLOW, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, CHIPPING SPARROW; on 3/31, CHIPPING
SPARROWS, 3 FOX SPARROWS, 3 singing male PURPLE FINCHES (MC).

Near Shelocta on 4/1, 1 PINE WARBLER (MH).


LAWRENCE COUNTY:

In the Plain Grove area on 3/31, sightings included 1 SANDHILL CRANE,
Ring-necked Ducks, SCAUP, 1 HORNED GREBE, 1 American Coot, 22 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, 4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2 American Wigeon (MV).

In New Beaver on 4/2, 1 drake CANVASBACK that has been present since
12/10/05; also seen were 2 LESSER SCAUP, 2 Buffleheads, 2 Hooded Mergansers
(MV).


MERCER COUNTY:

On 4/1 at Shenango Reservoir, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS (RStr).


SOMERSET COUNTY:

In Fairhope on 3/31, 3 BARN SWALLOWS (RO).


VENANGO COUNTY:

At Oil Creek State park on 3/30, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, COMMON RAVEN (RSta).

At Kahle Lake on 3/30, BONAPARTE'S GULL (RSta).


WASHINGTON COUNTY:

In IBA #80 on 3/26, sightings included 6 TUNDRA SWANS at the Green Cove
Wetlands, 11 WILSON'S SNIPE at the 231 wetlands, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, 26
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, 2 FIELD SPARROWS, 4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS (DY).

At Reservoir #4 in Washington on 3/26, 2 Common Loons, 7 Pied-billed Grebes,
1 Ruddy Duck, 1 LESSER SCAUP, 18 American Coots (DY).

In North Strabane and Peters Townships on 3/27, sightings included 1 hen
REDHEAD, 4 American Black Ducks, 1 HORNED GREBE in breeding plumage, 5
Hooded Mergansers, 9 Wood Ducks, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 3 Ring-necked Ducks (MV).

On the evening of 3/28 at Canonsburg Lake, 12 American Coots, 4 Hooded
Mergansers, 2 Ring-Billed Gulls, possible female Red-Breasted Merganser (RT).

At Hahn Road on 4/2, sightings included 2 Eastern Phoebes, 4 American Coots,
1 female Bufflehead, 1 female REDHEAD, 2 TREE SWALLOWS, Red-winged
Blackbird, Eastern Towhees, 1 FIELD SPARROW, 3 Wood Ducks (RT).


WESTMORELAND COUNTY:

At Donegal Lake on 3/30, OSPREY; on 4/1, sightings included 2 BARN SWALLOWS,
25 TREE SWALLOWS, 27 Red-winged Blackbirds, 10 Buffleheads, 1 Common
Merganser, 2 Ruddy Ducks, 4 Killdeer, 1 COMMON RAVEN, 1 Turkey Vulture, 2
Broad-winged Hawks, 1 OSPREY (LH).

In Stahlstown on 3/30, WINTER WREN; on 3/31-4/1, 1 white-headed Dark-eyed
Junco (LH).

At Acme Dam on 4/1, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 38 TREE SWALLOWS, 1 male PURPLE
MARTIN, 200+ Red-winged Blackbirds, 1 VESPER SPARROW, 6 Killdeer, 2 Turkey
Vultures (LH).

At Mammoth Wetlands on 4/1, sightings included 30+ TREE SWALLOWS, 6 Killdeer
(LH).

In Lycippus on 4/1, 1 Eastern Meadowlark (LH).

At Greenlick Reservoir on 4/2, singing BROWN THRASHER (MF).

On 4/2 along the Wynn-Clara Tredway Trail, 1-2 calling COMMON YELLOWTHROATS
(LAR).
