RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER
Sunday, April 9
In Martindale, at McIntyre Road, there were several SAVANNAH SPARROWS
singing. Also there were AMERICAN PIPITS and 1 WESTERN MEADOWLARK singing.
Saturday, April 8
A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was seen on Mt Tolmie in Saanich in the late morning,
by an out-of-town birder from Washington State.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at Royal Roads University.
1 WHIMBREL was seen at Clover Point.
A CLARK'S GREBE was seen again at Esquimalt Lagoon, on the ocean side.
At 4655 Kerryview Drive in the Prospect Lake area, there was a LINCOLN'S
SPARROW, 50 RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS, a BARRED OWL, RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER, RED
CROSSBILLS, a GREAT HORNED OWL, an AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and 3 species of
WARBLER: TOWNSEND'S, YELLOW-RUMPED & ORANGE-CROWNED. Birders are welcome.
Friday, April 7
A CLARK'S GREBE was seen at Esquimalt Lagoon with 75 WESTERN GREBES. It
was seen on the ocean side about half way down the lagoon.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen again at the Victoria golf course. It was seen
in the Southeast portion of the course.
A ROCK SANDPIPER was seen just offshore there with SURFBIRDS,
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, BLACK TURNSTONES & DUNLIN.
Thursday, April 6
2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS were seen over Royal Roads University.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen over the Victoria golf course. It is in full
breeding plumage.
A ROCK SANDPIPER was seen at Clover Point with BLACK TURNSTONES &
SURFBIRDS. All these three birds were in full breeding plumage.
Wednesday, April 5
A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen at Mt Douglas.
A NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW was seen from Blenkinsop Lake.
Tuesday, April 4
A second year male MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was seen at the end of Whiffen spit
in Sooke.
A male ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen on the power line right-of-way off
Munns Road.
This is the last day a PAINTED BUNTING was seen at 906 Damelart Way in
Brentwood Bay, north of Victoria. It is mostly seen feeding at the base of
the feeder in the front lawn. If you are going to observe this bird please
do not park in the driveway. Park before you get to the end of the
cul-de-sac on the side of the street. Walk up to the left hand side of the
driveway so not to disturb the birds feeding at the feeder. Walk through
the carport and up to the sundeck to observe the feeder from above. This
is the fifteenth day in a row the bird has been seen.
Monday, April 3
A CLARK'S GREBE was seen with 125 WESTERN GREBES off Esquimalt Lagoon in
Colwood on the ocean side.
A first year GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the Duncan Sewage Lagoon in Duncan.
A male MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was seen to the right of the viewing tower at the
Nanaimo River Estuary, on the Rains Road side.
