Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of April 7, 2006.

The surest harbinger of spring in Fairbanks, a single CANADA GOOSE
landed in the front field at Creamer's Refuge on April 6.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen at a residence on lower Trianon
Drive off of Steele Creek Road on April 4.

Also on April 4th, SNOW BUNTINGS were heard at Creamer's Refuge,
and a DARK-EYED JUNCO was seen on Yankovich & Dalton roads.

The first CANADA GOOSE was spotted on Clearwater Lake on April 1:
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Flatpick Rd. the same day.

Ten BOREAL OWLS and 19 GREAT-HORNED OWLS were heard
along Standard Creek Road. On March 30.

Upcoming events include:
A New Look for South Cushman Ponds: the Tanana Lakes
Recreation Area Karl Kassel, Director of the FNSB Parks and
Recreation Department, will talk about the exciting plans to
reclaim the South Cushman Ponds on Monday, April 10, at
7:00 pm, in the Noel Wien Library Auditorium

Birds of the Boreal: Owls, Grouse & Woodpeckers" The first
in a series of bird-identification workshops to help beginning and
intermediate birders learn about the birds of interior Alaska, will
take place on April 11 at 7 PM at the ABO Center for Education
& Research. Cost: $8 (ABO members) or $10 (nonmembers), or
sign up for the entire six classes for $40 (members) or $50
(nonmembers). Please call 451-7159 to register.

Birds of the Boreal: Diurnal Raptors will take place on April 18
at 7 PM at the ABO Center for Education & Research. Please call
451-7159 to register.

The annual Spring Migration Celebration will take place on
Saturday, April 29, from 12-4:00 p.m. at Creamer's Field
Migratory Waterfowl Refuge and the Alaska Bird Observatory
(the 'bird bus' will run between the two locations). There will be
many family friendly activities including bird watching, nature
walks, games, crafts, live birds of prey, and presentations.

where the bird was seen along with your name and phone number.
