GREATER FLAMINGO*, PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER**,GRAY-CROWNED YELLOWTHROAT* and

On the Upper Texas Coast migrants are beginning to arrive with BLUE-WINGED WARBLER
(Vermivora pinus), TENNESSEE WARBLER (Vermivora peregrina), NORTHERN PARULA, (Parula
americana), YELLOW WARBLER (Dendroica petechia), BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER
(Dendroica virens), BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER (Mniotilta varia), AMERICAN REDSTART
(Setophaga ruticilla), KENTUCKY WARBLER (Oporornis formosus) and HOODED WARBLER
(Wilsonia citrina), among others, being reported from High Island, Sabine Woods,
Quintana and other migrant traps. Of particular interest this past weekend was a
GREAT KISKADEE (Pitangus suppurates) seen at both Boy Scout Woods and Smith Oaks at
High Island, a CAPE MAY WARBLER (Dendroica tigrina) seen at the entrance of Smith
Oaks and a HERMIT WARBLER (Dendroica occidentalis) at the Willows at Sea Rim State
Park.. A YELLOW-GREEN VIREO (Vireo flavoviridus) was photographed at Quintana on
Sunday morning. A male LESSER GOLDFINCH (Carduelis psaltria) was photographed at a
feeder near I-10 and Fry Road.



In the Coastal Bend area a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER**( Pluvialis fulva), which will be
a first state record on acceptance, was found on Wednesday April 12 in a rice field
2 miles NE of Edna on Highway 59. The bird was in near breeding plumage and well
photographed. It was seen again briefly on Thursday April 13, but has not been found
again despite extensive searching. The banded GREATER FLAMINGO* (Phoenicopterus
ruber) was seen today in Rockport off of Rattlesnake Point Road in the marsh to the
left of the gate to Redfish Lodge.

In Central Texas a RUFOUS-CAPPED WARBLER* (Basileuterus rufifrons) is being seen
regularly at Neal’s Lodge in Concan. The bird has been coming into a drip by Cabin
61. A unconfirmed GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW* (Zonotrichia atricapilla) was reported
from South Llano River State Park in Junction on Saturday, April 15.

In the Rio Grande Valley the GRAY-CROWNED YELLOWTHROAT* (Geothlypis poliocephalus)
is still being seen at Sabal Palms Audubon Center in Brownsville. Ask the staff for
directions.
