A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and a WORM-EATING WARBLER were found yesterday at
Carpinteria Creek. The Worm-eating was near the 8th Street bridge - but very

A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was found in the vicinity of the Manzanita Village
Dorms at UCSB, also yesterday.
An adult SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at the Goleta Sewage Plant yesterday. Please
sign in at the office. A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen briefly here, also
yesterday.
Two LEAST BITTERNS were seen in the reeds at Lake Los Carneros on Wednesday.
Both birds were active about 10 yards in from the west end of the bridge. On
Saturday the 20th, there were two LEAST BITTERNS calling near the bridge, an
AMERICAN BITTERN, three SOLITARY SANDPIPERS and an immature COMMON MOORHEN
that was in the channel about 40 meters south of the bridge.
On Tuesday, there was a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH at Atascadero Creek, about 75
meters upstream of the S-curve between Turnpike and Walnut.
On Wednesday, the following birds were seen from the UCSB overlook to Goleta
Slough, which is just opposite the Environmental Health and Safety building
on campus: A flyover SOLITARY SANDPIPER, and one LESSER YELLOWLEGS. On
Sunday the 21st, four WHITE-FACED IBIS were also here. At Devereux Slough on
Wednesday there was one RED KNOT and 10 LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
On Sunday the 21st, there were three WOOD DUCKS at the Bird Refuge.
Highlights from the Cachuma Lake boat trips this week included one adult
BALD EAGLE, a WOOD DUCK, and six WILD TURKEYS.
At the Santa Maria Sewage Ponds on Black Road, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and a
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER were present on Tuesday
At Waller Park in Santa Maria, the CACKLING GOOSE and the ROSS'S GOOSE are
still in the front pond.
That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
