Highlights

An EASTERN KINGBIRD was seen in York.

A BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was at a feeder in Wells.

A SAVANNAH "IPSWICH" SPARROW, and a GLAUCOUS GULL were seen at Biddeford
Pool.

BARN SWALLOWS were seen in Scarborough and a NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOW was seen in Windham.

A VESPER SPARROW was seen at Clarry Hill in Union.

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was in Augusta.

A BLACK VULTURE was over I-95 next to the Bangor Mall on April 19.

One adult CASPIAN TERN was seen by Stimpson's Landing in East Machias on
April 16.

BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, WINTER WRENS, EASTERN TOWHES, BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHERS, and PALM and PINE WARBLERS were widely reported this week.
AMERICAN BITTERNS were reported from several areas.

York County

An EASTERN KINGBIRD was seen in York on April 17.

Two PINE WARBLERS were calling at the Cape Neddick post office and a
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was at the campground by Cape Neddick Beach.

A BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was at a feeder in Wells on April 16. Also seen in
the area were GREEN HERON and BROAD-WINGED HAWK. Two AMERICAN KESTRELS
and an AMERICAN BITTERN were seen in the marshes at Laudholm Farm in
Wells.

At Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunk there were 4 PIPING PLOVERS on April
18.

A GRAY CATBIRD, 3 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 1 NORTHERN GANNET, 1 GREAT CORMORANT,
1 SAVANNAH "IPSWICH" SPARROW, and a first year GLAUCOUS GULL were seen
at Biddeford Pool. At East Point Audubon Sanctuary in Biddeford there
were 15 BRANT. Thirty one BRANT were seen behind Hattie's on April 15. A
YELLOW -RUMPED WARBLER and a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER were seen near the
pond opposite Hattie's.

At Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco were 2 pair of NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 4
COMMON MERGANSERS, 1 BALD EAGLE, and a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER.

Scarborough Marsh Area

A COMMON SNIPE, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LITTLE BLUE HERONS, GREAT
and SNOWY EGRETS, GADWALL, and GREEN-WINGED and 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were
behind the Pelreco Building on Route 9.

Over 80 GLOSSY IBIS have been seen in the marsh.

A BARN SWALLOW was seen by the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Sanctuary on
April 18.

Along Eastern Road there were 12 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and WILSON'S SNIPE.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen in Buxton.

A CAROLINA WREN was seen in Cape Elizabeth on April 14. In Robinson
Woods in Cape Elizabeth there were RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHER, WINTER WREN, PALM WARBLER, 5 PINE WARBLERS, 2 HERMIT
THRUSHES, and GOLDEN-CROWNED and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS on April 14.

At Evergreen Cemetery in Portland there were PALM and PINE WARBLERS,
HERMIT THRUSH, VEERY, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, and 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO on
April 14.

An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen in a yard in Cumberland on April 16.

April 20 was a good day at Bradbury Mountain in Pownal with a good
flight of Broad-winged hawks after 3 p.m. Sightings included 11 OSPREY,
1 BALD EAGLE, 5 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 184 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 6 AMERICAN
KESTRELS, and 1 MERLIN. Other species seen this week at Bradbury include
COOPER'S HAWK, NORTHERN HARRIER, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, and RED-TAILED
HAWK. Spotters will be on top of Bradbury until April 25.

Two VIRGINIA RAILS and an AMERICAN BITTERN were seen at Gray Meadows on
April 15. An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen near the meadows on April 20. A
FIELD SPARROW was seen on Dutton Hill in Gray. Three RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
were seen elsewhere in Gray and EVENING GROSBEAKS were heard several
times this week in a yard in Gray.

Twelve FISH CROWS were seen by the Burger King on 302 in Windham. A
NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW was at Tarkill Pond in Windham.

BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen in Eustis and a couple GRAY JAYS were in
Rangeley.

Midcoast

A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was seen in Phippsburg on April 16.

A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was seen at Pemaquid Point on April 13.

On Monhegan Island the following birds were seen 2 BALD EAGLES, GOLDEN
and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 2 PALM WARBLERS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, OSPREY,
AMERICAN WOODCOCK, TREE SWALLOW, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, BROWN
CREEPER, WINTER WREN, HERMIT THRUSH, FIELD, SONG, CHIPPING,
WHITE-THROATED, and AMERICAN TREE and SONG SPARROWS.

At the Weskeag Marsh in South Thomaston there were 7 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
10 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 6 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 1 GREAT and 2 SNOWY EGRETS, 1
RED-TAILED HAWK, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, and 1 MERLIN.

New arrivals to Warren included HERMIT THRUSH, YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKERS, CHIPPING SPARROWS, and WINTER WREN.

A VESPER SPARROW was seen on April 15 at Clarry Hill in Union along with
4 AMERICAN KESTRELS, and 1 NORTHERN HARRIER.

An EASTERN TOWHEE visited feeders in Rockport.

A PALM WARBLER was in Camden on April 19. A VEERY was seen near the
Samoset Hotel.

On Bowen Road in Searsport there were ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, PALM WARBLER,
and MERLIN.

Central Maine

EVENING GROSBEAKS were at feeders in a yard in Richmond.

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was in Augusta on April 15.

In Wilton BROAD-WINGED, SHARP-SHINNED, COOPER'S HAWKS were seen along
with NORTHERN GOSHAWK, BARRED OWL, EVENING GROSBEAKS, and FOX SPARROWS.

A COOPER'S HAWK was seen in Newport.

In Dixmont there was a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK on April 13, a RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLET on April 14, and a HERMIT THRUSH on April 16.

In Orrington BARN SWALLOWS were seen on April 14, and a SWAMP SPARROW
and an AMERICAN BITTERN on April 15. A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was at a
feeder in Orrington.

A flock of 340 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS came up the Penobscot River on
April 19.

A BLACK VULTURE was over I-95 next to the Bangor Mall on April 19. In
Bangor there were PINE and PALM WARLBERS along with CHIPPING SPARROWS. A
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was reported near the Airport in Bangor.

A PALM WARBLER was in Veazie.

A male NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen on the Yellow Trail at Hirundo Wildlife
Refuge in Old Town.

Eastern Maine

An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Stockton on April 15.

At Witch Hole Pond in Acadia National Park, a PINE WARBLER was singing
on April 20, and SNOWY OWL was atop Acadia National Park's Pemetic
Mountain.

At Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge there were TREE SWALLOW, PINE and
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, NORTHERN FLICKER,
GREAT BLUE HERON, PIED-BILLED GREBE, and lingering BUFFLEHEADS.

An AMERICAN WIGEON was in Merritt Brook in Addison on April 13 and 14.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the turn-off to Cow Point from Johnson Cove
Road, where the sulphur pond empties into Englishman's Bay.

One adult CASPIAN TERN was seen by Stimpson's Landing in East Machias
off of Route 191 North/Cutler Road on Sunday April 16, at 2:00 p.m. The
tern continued northeast towards Machiasport and Whiting and was not
seen again. In East Machias on Gardner Lake Road there was 1 WINTER
WREN. In the freshwater marsh behind Washington Academy in East Machias
there were 2 SWAMP SPARROWS, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 1 GRAY CATBIRD, and 2
VIRGINIA RAILS. A pair of NORTHERN SHOVELERS were at the outlet of
Holmes Stream in Whiting along Route 191 North/Cutler Road on April 16.

An AMERICAN WIGEON was seen from the Machias Causeway.

Three NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS and 1 BARRED OWL were in Indian Township on
April 13.

Northern Maine

In Fort Kent there were GOLDEN and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, BROWN CREEPER,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, HERMIT THRUSH, WINTER WREN, AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW, and over 125 CANADA GEESE.

EVENING GROSBEAKS, PURPLE FINCHES, TREE SWALLOWS, BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS,
EASTERN PHOEBES, NORTHERN FLICKERS, and FOX SPARROWS were seen in
Houlton.
