Sightings for April 24

A GRAY FLYCATCHER was reported along Mission Creek near Gallagher's Canyon
in Kelowna (ST).

At the end of Belgo Road in Kelowna half a dozen WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS and a
VAUX'S SWIFT were seen (CC).

Two SNOW GEESE were at the N. end of Otter Lake, N. of Vernon and along L&A
Road in Vernon a EURASIAN WIGEON was with AMERICAN WIGEON (PB). The SNOW
GOOSE at Thomson Brook Pond in Kelowna continues as of April 24 (CC).

On April 23, an adult KUMLIEN'S ICELAND GULL was at the Maude Roxby Bird
Sanctuary in Kelowna (MF). Present on the 22nd were 28 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, an
adult MEW GULL and 1 ad. THAYER'S GULL (CC,RT).

On April 21, two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were at Robert Lake in Kelowna (RT,CC).

85 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen on Skaha Lake on April 21 (BH).

Many migrants appeared on April 21 in the Kelowna area. CHIPPING SPARROWS,
BARN SWALLOWS and CLIFF SWALLOWS were noted at various locations On the
Vernon Commonage there was a male BLUE-WINGED TEAL at Bailey Pond (CC,RT). A
PRAIRIE FALCON perched on a pole along Allan Brooks Way was a nice surprise
(RT,CC).


Sightings for April 18

A adult SNOW GOOSE has been frequenting the fields around Thomson Brook Pond
on Gordon Road on the S. side of the Capital News Centre in Kelowna
(BT,m.ob). It was first seen on the 17th and again seen on the 18th with a
flock of CANADA GEESE. While searching for the SNOW GOOSE on the evening of
the 18th two observers found a SAVANNAH SPARROW along the gravel path
(CC,RT).

On April 15 a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was at the mouth of Power's Creek
in Westbank (HB).

On the 15th of April 6 AMERICAN AVOCETS were at Alki Lake in Kelowna (RT).
Two AMERICAN AVOCETS have been at Robert Lake in Kelowna since the 16 of
Apri l (CC,BC).

A visit to the town of Cawston in the Similkameen Valley on April 14
produced a male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, a male BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD and over 40
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES (CC,MF,RT).

Five WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS flying over the cliffs just N. of Kekuli Bay Park
near Vernon are the first to be reported in the valley this spring (CS).

SWAINSON'S HAWKS have been reported recently both in the Vernon area near
Okeefe's Pond (CS) and along Old Vernon Road in Kelowna (CC).

A pair of GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen near at Gellatley Bay in Westbank on
April 15 and two OSPREY were seen hunting over Green Bay in Westbank on the
14 (EF).


Sightings for April 13

A male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER has been at Power's Creek Point in Gellately
Bay on the mornings of both April 12 and 13 (MF). Also at Gellately Bay a
flock of 32 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS feeding in front of the old pier and
loafing on the gravel bar at the mouth of Power's Ck on April 10 (MF).
Another 15 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were reported at the sandbar at the Maude
Roxby Bird Sanctuary in Kelowna on the 10th (BC).

On Wednesday, April 12, perhaps a thousand SANDHILL CRANES were migrating in
the vicinity of Road 22, N. of Osoyoos (JT). On April 8, two flocks of 50
cranes each were seen flying over Summerland (HB).

A male EURASIAN WIGEON was at Robert Lake in Kelowna along with a single
GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a single LESSER YELLOWLEGS (CC,CoC).

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen with a small flock of CANADA GEESE in
the fields along Meadowlark Lane at Swan Lake in Vernon on April 12 (ST).

On April 7, a WESTERN SCREECH OWL was in the pine woods behind the main
residences at UBCO in Kelowna and was heard in the evening (RC).
