On the Upper Texas Coast a SULPHUR BELLIED FLYCATCHER* (Myiodynastes luteiventris)
was found at Sabine Pass TOS Sanctuary on Wednesday April 19. The bird was last
reported on Saturday April 23. The bird was becoming increasingly shy and still
maybe present. A BLACK-WHISKERED VIREO* (Vireo antiliquor) has been seen several
times in the last week also at Sabine. A second BLACK-WHISKERED VIREO* was found
Saturday at Smith Oaks at High Island. Ten BOBOLINKS (Dolichonyx oryzivorus) were
along Hwy 87 near the old residence at Sea Rim State Park today. BOBOLINKS have also
been reported along Tuna Road on the Bolivar Peninsula.
In the Coastal Bend area a RED-FACED WARBLER (Cardellina rubrifrons) has been seen
the last two days at Goose Island State Park near Rockport. The bird is coming into
a drip by the feeding station on Warbler Way, by the restrooms in the trailer area.
The banded GREATER FLAMINGO* (Phoenicopterus ruber) was seen today in the bay near
Redfish Lodge off of Rattlesnake Point off of FM 1781 North of Rockport.
In the Rio Grande Valley a third BLACK-WHISKERED VIREO was seen on Sunday at the
South Padre Island convention center. The GRAY-CROWNED YELLOWTHROAT* (Geothlypis
poliocephalus) is still being seen at Sabal Palms Audubon Center in Brownsville. Ask
the staff for directions.
