____ DUPAGE COUNTY ______________________________________

On April 23, a ROSS'S GOOSE was seen in a park in Woodridge at the
corner of Woodridge Drive and Center Drive, just west of the City
Hall/Library complex.

At Blackwell F.P. on April 20th, an "AUDUBON'S" YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER
was seen. Enter off of Route 56 and turn left and proceed back to the
Archery Range area (park in the back of this lot outside of the archery
range boundary signs). Walk to the right (west/north) along the bike
trail towards the creek. Other birds seen in this area included a
TUFTED TITMOUSE, PINE WARBLER, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, and other regulars.
A COMMON LOON was also still present at the north end of Silver Lake at
Blackwell On April 20th.

On April 20th at McDowell Grove, birds seen south of the parking lot
along the river include at least two PINE WARBLERS, PALM WARBLERS and
many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.

On April 23 at Maple Grove, birds seen along the river include three
PINE WARBLERS, PALM WARBLER, and BROAD-WINGED HAWK.

At Elsen's Hill on April 20th, birds seen include a CAROLINA WREN, HOUSE
WREN, and EASTERN TOWHEES.

At least 9 PURPLE MARTINS were seen flying around the lake over the
martin houses at Armstong Park in Carol Stream this week.

On April 23, at Pratt's Wayne Woods, one YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was
seen at the Powis and Sterns corner marsh and one was seen in the marsh
north of the dog training field. HENSLOW'S SPARROWS have also returned
and can be heard in the evening along Munger Road and occasionally near
the dog field.

At Tri-County S.P. on the 23rd, two YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were seen
at the marsh north of the Indigo Trail (marsh with heron nests).

At the Morton Arboretum this week, two to three YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS
are being seen (although sporadically) near P-23 and also at P-25.

Highlights at Springbrook Prairie on April 23 included a HENSLOW'S
SPARROW, SORA, and WINTER WREN. Other recent sightings include
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, ORCHARD ORIOLE, and OSPREY.

At West DuPage Woods on April 23, highlights include a MAGNOLIA WARBLER,
YELLOW WARBLERS, both species of KINGLETS, and many YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS. A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was seen on April 26th at the marsh.

At Herrick Lake on April 21, birds seen included YELLOW-THROATED VIREO,
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, WARBLING VIREO, and NASHVILLE WARBLER.

On April 23 at Green Valley, highlights included BALD EAGLE,
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, two ORCHARD ORIOLES, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK,
SWAINSON'S THRUSH, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, and BLUE-HEADED VIREO.

At West Chicago Prairie on April 21, birds seen included three PINE
WARBLERS and a couple YELLOW WARBLERS.

A couple CASPIAN TERNS continue to be seen along the river at Hidden
Lake F.P. this week. An OSPREY, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and YELLOW-THROATED
VIREO were also seen on April 23. On April 22, a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER
was seen.

About 15 MONK PARAKEETS were seen in Glen Ellyn (behind Beister Gym -
Glenbard West) flying around along Park Ave. near Route 56.

____ KANE COUNTY ______________________________________

A SPOTTED TOWHEE seen last week, was still present as of April 21st at
Binnie Marsh F.P. in northern Kane County. The bird was seen east and
north of the parking lot. Walk along the northbound mowed path
concentrating on both sides. You do not need to go further than
the bottom on the slope (about 70 yds).

AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS continue to be seen at Nelson Lake Marsh (Dick
Young FP) Other recent highlights include AMERICAN BITTERN, SANDHILL
CRANE, and OSPREY.

SWAINSON'S HAWKS have been seen at their usual location near the Huntley
Outlet Mall, just north of I-90 and east of Route 47.

____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS ________________________________

Recent sightings at FermiLab include PINE WARBLER, MERLIN, WHITE-EYED
VIREO, and YELLOW-THROATED VIREO. A possible VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW was
seen flying over Casey's Pond on April 16th.

____ UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS ______________________________

Saturday, Apil 29, 8:00 a.m. Bend of the Illinois River and
Hennepin-Hopper Lakes.
This is an all day trip. We will meet and consolidate cars in Peru,
about 1 1/2 hours west on I-80 from the Chicago suburbs. Exit on IL-251
(exit 75) south, then turn right at the first traffic light that isn't
an Interstate ramp (38th St.) into the Walmart parking lot. Bring a sack
lunch as there is very limited food availability. Also, bring
walkie-talkies and a scope if available. Trip is limited to 20, and must
fit into 5 cars. Register with the trip leader.
