The following is a summary of the Georgia Rare Bird Alert (RBA) Friday
evening telephone report, April 25, 2006. The RBA is a service of the
Georgia Ornithological Society. Jeff Sewell is the voice of the RBA.


The Georgia Ornithological Society (GOS) is holding our annual Spring
meeting in Marietta, Georgia this weekend, including field trips to Kennesaw
Mountain National Battlefield Park, where 20 species of warblers were seen

Joan Thompson reports a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER near Cornelia. Directions:
Go north on Ga 365 north of Gainesville to Ga 384 (Duncan Bridge Road). Turn
left on 384, go 3 miles to a light at Shore's Store, turn right, go a short
distance to New Hope Church and look for the bird there. DeLorme 16:G-1.

Josh Spence reports a WARBLING VIREO among other good birds from the
Carter's Lake reregulation dam. He also had CLIFF SWALLOWS, TREE SWALLOWS,
and CAPE MAY WARBLERS. Directions: From the Reregulation Dam parking lot,
walk down the trail, go straight, do not turn right over the bridge. The
bird was about 40 yards on the right side of the trail by the creek, in the
thicket and canebrake. Josh also reports a MARSH WREN from the corner of
Fagala & County Line Rd. in Murray County.

Josh Spence also reports that Max Medley called him to report a PURPLE
GALLINULE at Spring Creek Preserve in Whitfield Co. on April 24th. Josh was
able to photograph the bird. Directions: Spring Creek Preserve is located
in DeLorme 13 C-8. west of a location called Norton on Boyles Mill Rd. Best
route to take is from Hwy 286, take Lower Kings Bridge Rd to Norton. Turn
left at three way stop, then another abrupt left onto Boyles Mill Rd. The
preserve is on the right. There is a gated parking lot. Park at the gate,
walk down the trail about 50 yards. The bird was in the pond on your left.

Annette Bittaker still has PURPLE FINCHES coming to her feeder in Douglas in
Coffee Co. today.

Margaret Harper and Brad Bergstrom report 55 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS from
the Andrews Island Causeway in Brunswick in Glynn Co. on Sunday, April 23rd.
This is a fairly late date for this species, as they should be headed back
to their breeding grounds in the north central plains of North America by
now.
