RUDDY TURNSTONE

Tuesday, May 2
A RUDDY TURNSTONE was with a flock of 15 BLACK TURNSTONES at Clover Point
along the Victoria waterfront.
CASPIAN TERNS continue at Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood with 3 birds today.
Also there were 100 BONAPARTE'S GULL and 12 BRANT.

Sunday, April 30
The first OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER of the season was reported at Mt Tolmie in
Saanich.
At 4655 Kerryview Drive in the Prospect Lake area was the first BLACK-HEADED
GROSBEAK of spring; birders are welcome to visit the property.
An anonymous observer reported a "Red-headed Woodpecker" from the Langford
and Glen Lake area off Glen Lake Road in Langford. However, this is more
likely a mis-identified RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER as this species has been
reported widely over the last few days.
On Stewart Mountain Road off Millstream Road in the Highlands there were 8
BAND-TAILED PIGEONS.
2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and 3 CASPIAN TERNS were observed at Esquimalt Lagoon
in Colwood.

Saturday, April 29
Spring arrivals continue with the fist YELLOW WARBLER sighting near the golf
driving range off Beverly Street at the edge of Somenos Lake marsh in
Duncan.

Friday, April 28
RARE BIRD ALERT: Out of town, on the Sunshine Coast, there was a
BLACK-THROATED SPARROW.
On Apr 27 and 28th, it remained at 4579 Stalashen Drive, which is off
Mission Point Rd in the Sechelt area.
RARE BIRD ALERT: In Langley in the Lower Mainland, a BLACK PHOEBE was seen
throughout the day. It was at the south end of the front pond on the campus
of Trinity Western University, at 7600 Glover Rd in Langley.
Locally, 3 HOUSE WRENS and 7 HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHERS were seen on Observatory
Hill in Saanich.
A male WESTERN TANAGER was seen on Mt Tolmie in the early morning.

Thursday, April 27
A VAUX'S SWIFT was seen over the Chinese Cemetery at Harling Point along the
Victoria waterfront.
5 CASPIAN TERNS were seen at the north end of Esquimalt Lagoon.
A WILSON'S WARBLER was reported at Witty's Lagoon in Metchosin. Also there,
a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 16 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and 1
WILSON'S SNIPE.
12 WHIMBREL were seen at the Victoria Golf Course in Oak Bay.
Up island in Duncan there were 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL and approximately 100
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at Somenos Marsh.

Wednesday, April 26
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen at Clover Point.
4 CASPIAN TERNS were at Esquimalt Lagoon at the north end near the bridge.
4 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES and 1 WILSON'S WARBLER were seen on Mt Tolmie. This
WILSON'S WARBLER is the first for the year for the Victoria checklist.
