This is the Kentucky rare bird alert, sponsored by the Kentucky
Ornithological Society. This update is current as of May 8, 2006 at 4:00 PM
EDT. This is a summary of the sightings posted at
http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm , with additional information on the
location and/or dates of the rare and unusual. The highlights of this update
are:

Last week’s RED-NECKED GREBE is still being seen near the Kentucky lake dam.
It has been in the beach area.

It is easier to list what was not reported this week. Of the eastern
warblers only 3 were not mentioned: CANADA, CONNECTICUT, and SWAINSON’S; and
not including BACHMAN’S. All eastern thrushes were seen at Berea college
woods and all mentioned from other spots as well. All eastern vireos were
also noted from across the state. Flycatchers that were not mentioned were
OLIVE-SIDED, YELLOW-BELLIED, and ALDER. I am sure I will hear that some or
all of these were also seen, but I have been wrong before.

BOBOLINKS “galore” were noted in Fulton county; I later read this is 50+.
Also seen there were MISSISSIPPI KITE. LEAST BITTERN and MOORHENS were
observed at camp# 11 in Union County. VIRGINIA RAIL were mentioned form
Peabody WMA; Sinclair unit. And LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, DUNLIN, and DICKISSEL were reported from the slough in Henderson
County. A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was still hanging around Berea College
woods, and a BREWSTER’S WARBLER (golden-winged x blue-winged hybrid) was
photographed in McCreary County.
