On 5/12 at the Ohio River in Industry, 3 OSPREY; at the New Brighton boat
launch, 1 American Coot, 1 COMMON MOORHEN (MV). The COMMON MOORHEN was still
present on 5/14 (GM).
On 5/12 in Darlington Township at the Madden Run Road marsh, 5-6 VIRGINIA
RAILS (MV).
On 5/13 for the migration count, highlights around the county were 1-2 SORA
and 6 VIRGINIA RAILS at Madden Run Road marsh, 3 CLIFF SWALLOWS at Raccoon
Creek and Ambridge Reservoir, CANADA WARBLER at Raccoon Creek, 18+ HENSLOW'S
SPARROWS at State Gamelands #285, 13 BOBOLINKS on and near SGL 285 (GM).
Near Montgomery Dam on 5/14, 1 Common Tern (GM).
BUTLER COUNTY:
At Moraine State Park on 5/13, 2 CASPIAN TERNS, 8 Ruddy Ducks, 1
Double-crested Cormorant, 6 Wood Ducks, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 GREEN HERON (MV).
CLARION COUNTY:
At the Piney Tract area on 5/7, highlights were HENSLOW'S SPARROWS,
CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS, GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, SAVANNAH SPARROWS, Field
Sparrows, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, Tree Swallows, Barn Swallows, Chimney
Swift, Turkey Vulture, NORTHERN HARRIER, Eastern Meadowlark, CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER, Yellow Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, PRAIRIE

In East Brady on 5/8, sightings included BLUE-HEADED VIREO, BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLER, and a singing WINTER WREN; on 5/13, a LAWRENCE'S WARBLER was seen
here and was singing the Blue-winged Warbler song; also seen in the area
were WORM-EATING WARBLER and many CERULEAN WARBLERS; other sightings that
day were TENNESSEE WARBLERS and 2 EASTERN WOOD-PEWEES (CW).
Along the Armstrong Trail on 5/8, 4 CERULEAN WARBLERS, 1 YELLOW-THROATED
VIREO, 1 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 1 WORM-EATING WARBLER, 1 BLUE-WINGED WARBLER,
Baltimore Orioles, INDIGO BUNTINGS, Scarlet Tanager, BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLER, Yellow Warbler, HOODED WARBLER (CW).
All week at the Curllsville Strips area, 3+ CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS have been
active and singing (CW).
CRAWFORD COUNTY:
The WILSON'S PHALAROPE at Miller's Ponds was still present on 5/7 (FM). On
5/14, sightings there included 47 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 1 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1 UPLAND SANDPIPER, 1
DUNLIN, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 7 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 18 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS (MV).
On 5/13 a LEAST BITTERN and a COMMON MOORHEN were calling at Hartstown Marsh
(RS).
At Pymatuming Reservoir on 5/13, 9 BALD EAGLES (mostly immatures) (RS).
At the fish hatchery on 5/14, 4 DUNLIN, 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 5 BALD EAGLES;
at the Spillway, 2 1st-year BONAPARTE'S GULLS; and at the Shelota Pond
parking lot, BLACKPOLL WARBLERS with the Yellow-rumped Warblers (MV).
ERIE COUNTY:
From last week: on 5/5, CERULEAN WARBLERS were found along Six Mile Creek
County Park (JM).
At Presque Isle State Park this week, highlights were GREAT EGRET at Niagara
Pond and Leo's Landing, MERLIN, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, and BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER at Gull Point, Orchard Oriole on Sidewalk Trail and also at Franklin
Center, WHIP-POOR-WILL at Fry's landing, and BREWSTER'S WARBLER at Fry's
landing, BLACK TERN at Waterford on 5/9, Northern Mockingbird at Beach 11 on
5/11; also on 5/11, a peak total of 23 warbler species were counted,
including NORTHERN PARULA; other less common species reported recently have
been WHITE-EYED VIREO, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, CERULEAN
WARBLER, LINCOLN'S SPARROW (JM). Another report on 5/11 produced DUNLIN,
SANDERLING, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, and LEAST SANDPIPER at Gull Point; Niagara
Pond had American Woodcock, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and SPOTTED SANDPIPER; Pine
Tree Trail yielded SOLITARY SANDPIPER; Thompson Bay had a LESSER YELLOWLEGS;
a third-year BALD EAGLE and 4 migrating NORTHERN HARRIERS over Gull Point;
thrushes included HERMIT THRUSH GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH; vireos included
PHILADELPHIA VIREO and 4 WHITE-EYED VIREOS; seven species of duck; an
AMERICAN PIPIT was seen on a spit in Thompson Bay; flycatchers included 4
calling LEAST FLYCATCHERS, 7 WILLOW/ALDER FLYCATCHERS, and 20 Eastern
Kingbirds; Red-breasted Nuthatches were found in four locations; 24 species
of warblers were seen or heard, mostly at Fry's Landing; seven species of
sparrows with nearly 100+ White-throated Sparrows and 100+ WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS feeding everywhere; 22 migrating BOBOLINKS; total species seen or
heard in the park was 125 (RS). On 5/12, highlights were BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON on Pine Tree Trail, 7 GREAT EGRETS at the head of the park, 3
BLACK TERNS at Misery Bay, Northern Mockingbird at Beach 11; on 5/13, 8
GREAT EGRETS and 3-4 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the head of Presque
Isle Bay, and 3 BLACK TERNS were at Niagara Pond (JM).
FAYETTE COUNTY:
At Ohiopyle State Park on 5/10, sightings included 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 1
SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 1 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, 1 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 7 Chimney

SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 12 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and a
possible STILT SANDPIPER (FM).

In suburban Waynesburg on 5/11, Common Yellowthroat (FS).

At Blacklick Valley Natural Area on 5/7, sightings included BLACK-THROATED

At the Three Rivers gravel pond on 5/13, a pair of Hooded Mergansers here
with 15 chicks, 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 6 SPOTTED

In Plain Grove on 5/14, 1 Common Loon (adult in breeding plumage), 2 LESSER
