Mira Loma. On Friday morning she saw at least four pair of WOOD DUCKS on
the educational pond at Hidden Valley. One pair had 11 ducklings.

GROSBEAK near trailer space 11 at Mayflower Park in Blythe.
IMPERIAL COUNTY
Chet McGaugh visited the Salton Sea on May 13 and reported a male SUMMER
TANAGER near Bashford’s Hot Mineral Spa in an area with cottonwoods. The
last spring sighting recorded for this bird north-northeast of Calipatria,
was in 1996 by Gene Cardiff. Chet also saw a number of birds at the end of
Johnson Street including: several conspicuous GULL-BILLED TERN, 2 BRANT,
and hundreds of BLACK TERNS.
Guy McCaskie also birded the Salton Sea area. Highlights included: SURF
SCOTER (1 female at the intersection of Lack and Lindsey Roads),
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER (1 in alternate plumage at Unit 1), BAIRD’S
SANDPIPER (2 in alternate plumage at Unit 1), and LEAST TERN (3 adults on
Morton Bay at the west end of Hazard Road). Also present were 6 BROWN
PELICANS and 1 YELLOW-FOOTED GULL, and 8 LAUGHING GULLS. Guy felt the
presence of these birds indicates some sea birds have moved north from the
Gulf.
