This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, May 18. Please report
sightings to Jon Fisher at 818-544-5009 or via e-mail at JonF60@hotmail.com

An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was at Cabrillo Beach on May 16. The bird was
judged likely to be a pure American rather than a hybrid and was seen at the
end of the day.

On May 9, two BLACK SWIFTS and a PURPLE MARTIN were reported near the USC
Medical Center in East Los Angeles.

A probable BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER was seen at Placerita Canyon on May 13.
The bird was along the trail that heads west from the Walker Ranch picnic
area. The specific area was the first clearing where the trail turns to
follow the south wall of the canyon.

Two BANK SWALLOWS were at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh near Playa del Rey on
May 13.

On May 16 there was a singing male NORTHERN PARULA at El Dorado Park in Long
Beach. The bird was on the west side of Area 2 and was last seen near the
northwest corner of the Archery Range.

Another NORTHERN PARULA was found on Old Creek Road off Highway 133 in
Ventura County on May 17. The bird was singing near the house at #9940 Old
Creek Road. Still another N. PARULA was reported in Ventura also on May 17.

This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
