Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was recorded on
Thursday, May 18, at 10:25 am. To report a bird sighting, leave a message after the

A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen by Reid Barclay on May 14 at Saddler's Slough.
Also there amongst other shore birds were a WESTERN SANDPIPER and 4 STILT
SANDPIPERS. Saddler's Slough is along the gravel road immediately north of the Hwy 1
& 24 junction.

Other recent shore bird reports include 50 STILT SANDPIPERS reported by Jody Allair
on May 14 at the slough just east of Airdrie on Hwy 567. Also at this slough, Andrew
Slater saw 20 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES on May 16. There were 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS
seen by Mary Coughlin and Kathleen Roman on the east side of the first 4-way
intersection on Hwy 817 north of Strathmore on May 15.

On May 16, Terry Korolyck observed 2 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS at the slough across the
road from the west side of Heather-Glen GC. On May 16 & 17 Terry reported a breeding
plumaged male AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was in the SW corner of the slough east of the
first 4-way intersection north of Strathmore on Hwy 817. In the NW corner there,
Terry saw 20 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS . On may 17 Terry saw 5 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS on
Rge Rd 254 south of Twp Rd 273 east of Irricana.

Terry Korolyk reported a hybrid male CINNAMON/BLUE-WINGED TEAL was on a small pond
west of the 4-way intersection north of Strathmore on May 17. Bill Wilson and Jody
Allair observed an adult ROSS'S GOOSE as well as at least 5 WHITE-FACED IBIS at
Frank Lake on May 14.

Jody Allair saw a BLACK TERN east of Airdrie, also on May 14..

Terry Korolyk observed an adult TRUMPETER SWAN north of the first farm north of the
Heatherglen GC and an adult TUNDRA SWAN just west of the Conrich Hynction on Hwy
864, both on May 14.

Recent songbird arrivals include a BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a LEAST FLYCATCHER at
Wyndham-Carseland PP seen May 14 by Jody Allair. Bill Wilson reported a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH and a WESTERN WOOD PEWEE in Confederation Park in Calgary on May 15. The
same day, Jason Rogers reported a VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW and a WARBLING VIREO in a
walk around Banff.
An unusual location for a HERMIT THRUSH was east of the entrance gate to Frank Lake,
6 km east of Hwy 2 at High River as reported by Bill Wilson May 14.

Lois and Bill Lang observed a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD at Kinbrook Island south of
Brooks on May 12.
