Friday, May 19, 2006. 8:45am update. Compiled and transcribed by David

LONG-BILLED CURLEW
SANDHILL CRANE

Thursday, May 18
A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was seen on the south side of Martindale Rd, between
Lochside Dr and Welch Road in Central Saanich. 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were
frequenting a ditch nearby. 2 SANDHILL CRANES were observed in the
Martindale Valley near the model airplane field off Lochside Drive, they
were later seen in the fields on the south side of Martindale Rd. Please
respect private property.
Nearby, a male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was in the cottonwoods at the corner of
Martindale Rd and Lochside Drive.

Wednesday, May 17
5 WHIMBREL and 2 MARBLED GODWITS remained at the 5th tee of the Victoria
Golf Course in Oak Bay.
Different observers have reported a SANDHILL CRANE which has been present
for the last two days in a newly tilled farm field just south of 9865 West
Saanich Road near the Victoria International Airport.

Tuesday, May 16
No reports for this day.

Monday, May 15
A WANDERING TATTLER was along the Ogden Point breakwater off Dallas Road
along the Victoria waterfront.
A MOURNING DOVE was observed at a private residence in Metchosin.
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS are now being reported widely around the region.
4 WHIMBREL were at Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood.

Sunday, May 14
At the Victoria Golf Course, the WHIMBREL flock has now grown to 33 birds
and a single MARBLED GODWIT remained with them.
Multiple observers report that 1 or 2 WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES continue on Mount
Tolmie Park in Saanich. A NORTHERN HARRIER was also present there.
A good fallout of many WILSON'S WARBLERS was observed from many sites around
Victoria.
A TRUMPETER SWAN lingers at Cowichan Bay near Duncan.
Of interest, MUTE SWANS now appear to be breeding for the first time on
Saltspring Island.

Saturday, May 13
A late GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE has been present for over a week in the
company of Canada Geese at the Railyards off Tyee Road in Victoria West.
2 WHIMBRELS were at the south end of Esquimalt Lagoon.
