Meredith Spencer reports a late SNOWY OWL was seen 16 May in Douglas Co WA.
It was along Sprauer Road out of Waterville. WA DeLorme 83, C-8.
On 18 May, Michael Woodruff found a ROSS'S GOOSE on Philleo Lake in Spokane
Co WA. From US 195, head west at the Spangle jct, immediately right onto
Jenness Road. After about 2 miles, veer left toward the lake. WA DeLorme 73,
A-5.
Another WA ROSS'S GOOSE was seen 20 and 21 May in Pend Oreille Co. Terry
Little found a bird at River Bend Loop, subsequently seen by several birders
on Sunday. The bird is in the marshy area of the Loop. WA DeLorme 105, A-6.
A WHITE-FACED IBIS was in West Richland, Co WA on 15 May. Located by Bob
Derding, the bird was in a flooded field near Twin Bridges and Sniveley
roads. If you take Twin Bridges from WA 240 across from the landfill, the
field is on the left just before Sniveley. WA DeLorme 39, B-6.
Randy Hill found a CLARK'S GREBE at Para Ponds, Adams Co WA on 13 May. Para
Ponds are northwest of Othello, Adams Co WA. From Othello go north on
Broadway (west end of town extending north from WA 24) past the processing
and storage facilities. When the road crosses the RR tracks it becomes
McManamon Road. Continue across the canal and down the hill past the two
potato sheds. The Para Ponds are just beyond on both sides of the road. WA
DeLorme 53, B-7.
Another Adams Co WA CLARK'S GREBE was on Sprague Lake, on the near side of
Harper Island, on 10 May according to Gina Sheridan. She also reports a
RED-NECKED GREBE on the Lincoln Co end of the lake. Sprague Lake straddles
the Lincoln and Adams county line just south of I-90. WA DeLorme 71, BC-8.
On 11 May Gina Sheridan found a nice mix of sparrows at the Davenport
Cemetery, just southwest of Davenport, Lincoln Co WA. Species included a
single WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 3 GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS, and a couple of HERMIT THRUSH. In Davenport, head south on WA 28
about 0.75 mile and then turn right on Mountain View-Cemetery Road that
heads toward the grove of conifers at the cemetery. WA DeLorme 87, C-7.
Good birding.
